Which shift do you like most of the two?

I love love love 7p to 7a. More money and more of a challenge because of less support staff. I can still have a portion of my day on the days I start my stretch and cheat the system and get up early or stay up "late" on the mornings that begin my days off. I seem to have a personality that fits the night shift better and the concept of getting up naturally in the afternoon beats getting up in the am with an alarm! I'll be on nights forever! :) Ivanna

7p-7a, for sure. More money, for one thing.
Too many people around on dayshift - the unit is teeming with staff/people! Housekeeping, laundry, SW, docs, PT, students, volunteers, maintenance, random people in suits, etc. I start to feel really crowded when I have to stay over to chart. I think we have better team-work on nights, more control of our work flow (our breaks are when WE want them - only have to find someone to take your pager).
Although, I do need alot more sleep working nights. I have been toying with the idea of switching to days just to see if it would be worth it (social life-wise).

For me, 7p-7a PRIOR to becoming a mom. I had to go to days or else I'd never see my baby. As soon as she goes to school, going back to nocs will be best. I sleep while she's in school and get to pick her up, eat dinner together before going off to work.
Days is too crowded! I can live the rest of my career gladly without seeing management again lol.
Yo do sacrifice more sleep but it is totally worth it imho.

I'm torn between the two! I love nights because its' less chaotic with staff and the shift diff isn't bad either. I hate nights because it really throws me off, sometimes I don't know whether I'm coming or going. I'll also be a newly wed soon so ofcourse I'd rather be in bed with my hunny.
I love days because day shift really go by fast. However, its' so chaotic that sometimes I forget to pee, and take my breaks. I also hate getting up at 4:30am... ugh.
12 hour shifts burn me out whether its days or nights. Sometimes I miss the days when I worked in school health, working Mon-Fri. no weekends or holidays.

I'm not a nurse yet, just a NA waiting to hear back on my test date from the Red Cross for certification, but I'm totally looking forward to nights!

Well I prefer days if I have to do five 8hr shifts, but nights if it is just three 12s. I could make either work. I am def. more of a day person, but the nights were quieter for the most part. That doesn't mean there was less work, just less noise everywhere.. That I liked. I also liked not having to share every square inch of free space with everyone else.. You could chart sitting at a desk.. GASP.
