Which Job would YOU rather have??

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hospital job - 3 twelve hr shifts (day or night) with a nice shift diff for nights/weekends

OR

Doctors office job - Mon-Fri 830-530 with one hour lunch, less pay by a couple dollars an hour and no shift diff.

*** ALSO, what would your ideal or dream nursing job be and why? ***

Specializes in pediatrics, public health.

I'd go for the office job, but that's because I'm a single mom with a child in elementary school -- in fact I switched to public health nursing to get away from hospital hours. I LOVE working banker's hours! But if I didn't have a kid, I'd do the hospital job for sure -- more interesting, challenging, and you learn so much more.

But it doesn't matter which job I'd rather have, it only matters which job you'd rather have -- sounds like your choice is clear!

Good luck with your new job!

I'm not a nurse yet, but I do work as a CNA and Billing and Coding Tech in an office right now, working four 10s. I think once I get my nursing degree, I'd be better off working in a hospital setting to develop the skills, such as IV, PEG tubes, etc. Maybe later in life, working in an office could be better, working around a child's school sched. ect.

My dream job: CNS in Pain Management!

four ten hour shifts are optimum in my book

Specializes in ER, ICU.

Monday to Friday? I'd kill myself.

Take the 3 12s! Much more flexibility, 4 days off, better pay, the opportunity to have even better pay since you have more days that you can pick up overtime, etc.

My ideal job: pathophysiology instructor. Or OB instructor.

Specializes in Peds Medical Floor.

I worked in a Dr's office for 1 day and was so bored I quit.

I would do 3'12 and then for the rest of the days (except sat, sun) I would home health care:)

I'd prefer 3 12's, but with kids and a family I'd pick 8-5.

I'll take 3 12s at night on a unit that is always staffed appropriately.

That's my dream job.

Specializes in Home health was tops, 2nd was L&D.
Neither for me. I do not like the hospital environment (staffing, catty behavior,etc.). I think a doctors office would be hmmm...not fun. LOL

I am not sure what my dream job is, but I do know I would like to volunteer or work at a free clinic for those who do not have insurance, etc. I would also like to work with the homeless. I had a chance to do so a few months ago, but the pay was so very low. I have to have a certain amount of money. Maybe another chance will come along with better pay.

:)

To get paid for your dream. you need to go in to public health or become NP and go into rural public health!!

Specializes in Oncology and Hospice/Palliative Care.

MD office for me, as long as he wasn't one of those MD's that thought you were also his personal assistant!

Dream job: WalMart Greeter at $100K a year...hee hee :wlcmhnds:

I worked M-F for years. I can't do that again, no matter what.

I would like to do part time, two 12 hour shifts a week. Or if I could afford to live without health insurance, I would do PRN and work one 12 shift a week.
