Which job would you take?

JOB A Case Manager

A large case management company-it has jobs in hopsitals and the community. They have many scheduling options. Some work M-F 0830-1630. The job I would have is Tues and Wed 1300-2100 and every other weekend 1000-1800. Which I dont mind while the kids are this age and in the future I could change easily. I always would work the same days. Again, there are a variety of set schedules which I could in the FUTURE choose.

It's mostly computer work and no hands on care-which I am OK with. I would need after school care for 2 days a week only.

JOB B OR Nurse

In a hospital-all surgeries are out pt surgeries. The shifts are 0730-1530 or 0800-1600 but the days are different all the time-for example it could be Mon Wed Fri or Wed Thurs Fri. The schedule does not repeat. They put you in when they need you. No weekends. No holidays, March break off, 2 wks at Christmas off and 2 weeks off in summer (not paid though as I am part time).

Working closely with docs-which can be good or bad. This job would require my kids to attend an after school anf before school program on all days I work.

Both are the same distance away. Pay is pretty similar. Both are 3 days per week.

Specializes in Pediatric Critical Care, Cardiac, EMS.

The question isn't what job *I* would take. The question is what job do *you* think is the best fit for your skill set, career plans, job options, and family.

And from reading your posts, I think you already know the answer to that.

Best of luck to you! Congrats on having two options from which to choose!!

I have done lots of OR and a student placement as a case manager. I think I would be happy doing either.

Was it the OR you think I will take?

for me personally, and speaking from a mom's perspective, i'd take the job that requires the least daycare.

hands down.

nice to have 2 job offers, yes ajax??:balloons:

Specializes in Geriatrics.
job 2

why would you choose that?

Specializes in ER, OR, PACU, TELE, CATH LAB, OPEN HEART.

I think an OR job all outpatient with that amount of time off garunteed would be perfect. If you are used to doing clinical work, being busy, and inteacting with others you probably would quickly grow old interacting with your computer. I know you "THINK" the hours are great but trust me, working every weekend while hubby and kids are home will soon grow old also.

After my husband died I thought a permanent charge 1pm to 9pm in OR would be great. IN 3 short months I was bored silly, and the hours gave me NO social life.

If you decide on Case Management, please let me and the OR manager know. I'd LOVE that job.

Good Luck.

It's actually every OTHER weekend with case management-plus I could switch down the road.

I think the OR would be more marketable in the future as it is hands on/pt care.

I don't have Job B yet -officially.

Think about the case management. That's what I would do. Probably less stress, maybe less daycare and it could be interesting. Only if your husband would do daycare on the weekends that you work. How old are your children? You might like to have a change of pace and if it doesn't work out you could always go back to the OR since you have the experience.

My kids are 8 and 10. It would be less daycare.

OR-kids would need before school and after school care three days a week.

Case Management-no before care needed, after care needed 2 days a week

My husband would definitly be with the kids on weekends. Once the kids are older I could take a case management posting that has less weekends.
