Good thread. I, too feel the same way about the ever changing faces of nursing. I recently went all the way and changed careers within nursing from a NP practice to medical legal nursing. I now market my own business. I had a goal 5 years ago to be financially independent and my own boss, never realizing this would be the path.
5 yers from now I want to be recognized across my state as a successful business woman in the field of medical legal nursing.
I hope to grow and mature within nursing and keep up all my skills at the same time. I hope I never lose sight of what the meaning of a true nurse is and will always be....caregiver....advocate......trend setter....angel of mercy.

I like this thread too. In five years, I see myself as a practicing clinical nurse specialist, mentoring new grads and ensuring that at least in my little corner of the world, there is no reason for them to be afraid to ask questions...next??

I've always wanted to teach nursing. In five years, I'll probably be working on my Masters so I can do that.

hmmm...in 5 years i hope to be working on my masters. I'll get my LVN in 3 months, so if I start my RN program next fall, I will be graduating with masters in 5 years...how exciting, I will be 27 years old!!!

In five years, I hope to be in an Emergency NP school after which I plan to work in a community setting (not too far from a large city) and get to really know patients and build trusting relationships with them.

I see myself as a business owner I have no one to take care of but myself so I have lots of money to save up if that's what I wish to do :)

I see myself working as an RN at the bedside (hopefully pursuing my BSN as well). I haven't gotten the "itch" for administration but things may change. Also, I plan to start my family and enjoy it. Oh by the way, far away from New England's wintry weather :)

Wonderful thread and I've enjoyed all the replies! I always used to answer this "in 5 years I will be still in my niche...Critical Care'.
Now I don't quite know how to answer this question. I may be out of nursing altogether altho I don't have a clear direction.
Good luck everyone in reaching your goals! :)

I think about this all the time. In five years, I will be finishing CRNA school. Awwww what a relief....I could almost get lost in this thought. Hehe

I love this topic. In five years I hope to be a bedside nurse in oncology. That will give me enough time to finish my ADN and get my BSN as well. I actually think about this all the time. I cannot wait to become a nurse!:)
