Pet Peeves
OMG, the one that drives me up the wall is when someone pages the Dr. then will not answer the phone. So, the phone is ringing off the hook, I answer it and have to go up and down the hall searching for the person who paged them. Meanwhile they are doing a dressing change or starting IV:angryfire

Where do you see yourself 5 yrs from now
I think about this all the time. In five years, I will be finishing CRNA school. Awwww what a relief....I could almost get lost in this thought. Hehe

are nurses liable if doctors dont return calls?
The protocol at our hospital is to let the house supervisor know as well when the MD doesn't call back. If it is a resident, I definitely page the senior resident. I have had this situation happen several times. It is very frustrating.:angryfire Especially when the patient needs something to make them more comfortable or you are concerned with their status.

What squicks you out?

Tagging HIV status in chart?
Oh my goodness. I had no idea of these chances. I'm glad you are O.K.

Tagging HIV status in chart?
I think knowing makes a person more nervous. One of our PCP's recieved a stick after drawing blood from an AIDS patient. Nothing like this had ever happened to her. I think she was nervous. I agree with the others. Treat everyone as though they have it. Even the little ole ladies. Incidences of HIV are becoming prevalent in the nursing homes. Can you believe it?

Nclex Exam 6 times
Congratulations to you! I have 4 more semesters before I graduate. My school has boards of their own, and one can't take the state board before they pass the school's boards. Alot of people complain but most say it is so like the real test. My school has a 0 failure rate for the boards, so it must help. Again, congratulations!

East Tn LPN jobs and schools?
I live in JohnsonCity as well. I graduated LPN school in 1997 at the TN Technology Center at Elizabethton. It is an awesome program. You can find their number in the phone book. Good luck.

johnson city/milligan college
Hey there. I attend Milligan College and also in the BSN program. I am a little older and most of the students are young, but it is an awesome school. I live off campus of course. I wish I had went there when I was younger because they are always doing something fun. I can't say enough. The classroom size is small and all the instructors know you by name. Feel free to email me if I can help you anyway.

Question for DRG Puretone Stethoscope Owners???
I bought a cardiology puretone a couple of months ago. It is the BEST one I have ever had. I have a hard time hearing heart sounds good. The first time I used mine, the patient had a murmer that I didn't even know was in her history and I heard it. (I had never been able to hear murmers). I just can't say enough about it. The breath sounds are amazing as well. The ear tips are wonderful, and the tubing blocks out external sounds. A classmate of mine has the regular and she is happy but I wanted to pay a little more and get the best. Amazing.

Your Worst Mistake
Oh you poor dear. At my hospital, it is protocol that we have to have 2 nurses check and sign each others insulin. No matter what kind, what dose. I guess I shouldn't complain.

why are cna's treated like they are stupid and replaceable?
I am an LPN and I work my tail off. I could never survive without my aides and PCP's. The PCP's are CNA's with phlebotomy and EKG skills. They are my right hands. I tell them everyday how much I appreciate them. I definitely think that CNA's are underpaid. Just as I think LPN stands for "low paid nurse". Hehe. 4 more semesters till my BSN, but just more headaches as someone said.

Which road to take? LPN or RN?
I'm sorry that is this time in school--- the prerequisites stuff. 14 years ago (before I got my LPN I started for my RN) and took almost 2 years of classes. Alot of those have been eliminated from the program now, so I have alot of useless classes. Anyway, I have four semesters in the BSN program. Good luck in all you do.

Which road to take? LPN or RN?
Go straight for your RN. My personal opinion is that the bridge program isn't all it's cracked up to be. All I have got to skip with the other students in the program is Fundamentals 1 and 2. I had to have all the same prerequisites and that took about a year and a half. My advice would be to get a tutor for anatomy. As an LPN for 8 years, my career choices is so limited. I would love to work in the ER or ICU but my hospital only has RN's in that area. There is just so many more opportunities.
