Where do you do your CNA clinicals at

Nursing Students CNA/MA

i was just wondering where do cna's do their clinicals at? i'm hoping that all of the clinicals are not done in nursing homes. because i really don't want that because i don't want to work in a nursing home or anything like that. i really want to work in ob either in l&d or in the nursrey. the only reason why i'm getting ready to take the cna class is that where i go to school at they have now where you have to do the cna program before you can go into the lpn program.

I can not speak for all schools, but mine was in a nursing home only.

Specializes in ER, OB.

mine was nursing home only. around here cna's can't work in ob or l&d or the nursery. sometimes they will hire nursing students thought. good luck and you will do fine at the nursing home. at my school your first nursing clinicals are at a nursing home. what better way to prepare you. good luck!!!

I am pretty sure that ALL cna classes have their clinicals at nursing homes. Only makes sense since thats pretty mcuh where all cna's end up working after school. I am finishing it right now and have hated every minute of it lol hope your experience at the nursing home is better than mine :)

Mine was at a hospital in the suburbs of Chicago.

Ours is a hospital based program, and all of our clinicals are in the hospital.

i live in la county and my cna course focuses on ltc and we are doing our clinicals in a skilled nursing facility.

Mine are strictly in a Nursing Home... however I think it's a good place to learn. Most of the residents need complete care so you really can practice your skills. It's difficult to learn on a patient who can do most things on their own. Just my :twocents:

Specializes in LTC.

I'm from Minnesota and CNA classes focus specifically on nursing home care. So we did our clinicals in LTC.

Might as well get used to LTC as you'll be dealing with LTC in nursing school clinicals as well.

Specializes in CNA.

Ours are at a nursing home/assisted living/senior apt. conglomerate, but we've only been on the LTC floor. I know the hospital here does classes too, but they only let CNA's on the transitional care unit.

LTC was the only option here.

From California here and most CNA clinicals are nursing homes here. But if you can just do the clinicals the door should open up for hospitals on med surg floors for you. OB is had to get into as a CNA...they are mostly your RN's & LPN's...don't give up...things will look brighter in the long run.....I know I have been there and now starting from the bottom again....I thought I was done with Medical work....went to airlines and now could just kick my butt...I was a EMT Specialist....but gave up my license....:
