I have been reading the threads here with interest. I just finished my first of two years in an Associate's program and have the summer off from school. Should I start reviewing NOW? I've seen people talking about completing 3000 review questions before taking the NCLEX. It seems that would take some time; is it a requirement in certain schools, or is it just a suggested review?
I am not freaked out about preparing or taking the NCLEX (yet! :chuckle ) but I do want to give myself the best chance of passing on the first time.
Should my review start now?

Since no one else has posted, I thought I would give you a quick note. I am a R.N., when I finished school, several of us took a local review from a former teacher. She was so wierd, but she kept us interested in what she would do or say next. I will say that those of us who took her review all passed. She seemed to be plugged into the thought of the exam, I can honestly say some of her scenerios were right on target, we had questions that were very close to what she reviewed. Now, I don't think she is even working now, but I do know that any review is better than none. Well, maybe not those big, too quick, impersonal national ones, we had one girl pay for one of those and she said it was a waste of money. Good luck and let us know how things go for you.
Thanks! I hope my school will offer some type of review program or that I find one locally when I graduate. It sounds like you found a wonderful teacher!

In actually preparing for your exam, I would not begin that until next March or so. But to use a review book now just to get an idea on how the questions are worded, would be great.
Good luck with your schooling.................. :)

Thanks! I worry that having no class over the summer and then going back for 7 wks maternity and 7 wks psych I will forget much med-surg. The final semester (starts January) is another med-surg but thats a LONG time from now! i:"ve heard about Saunders review books...they seem to be highly recommended here so I might look into one.
I prefer Saunders. Smart choice............ :)

That is the one I post questions from on this site.
You know, I asked my professor that same question about when to start studying for the NCLEX, and she said "yesterday". Can't start too early (unless your not in the program yet and have no idea what they are talking about)

ya...I ordered a couple reveiw things from Amazon. I got Kaplan 05-06 and the reveiw from the "Nursing Made Incredibly Easy" people. I am going to ask for the Saunders for Christmas

Yeah, Saunder's is an excellent book because it is very easy to understand. I'm using it to study for the boards.

Hi! I think it's never too early to start practicing with review questions for the NCLEX. I started studying probably in Dec. 2004 and just graduated last week ...and between now and then I did about 4000 questions at least! So it is doable, esp. if you spread them out over a long period of time. Good luck! :)

The Saunder's is much more true to the content of the exam than the nursing made incredibly easy series.
Not only does Saunders have the comprehensive review book, with about 2500 questions, but they also have the "Q&A review" with about 3400 questions.

3000 questions is a lot of questions, but if you allow yourself enough time, you will be able to do that number with no problem. You could do 100 questions/day & have reached 3000 in one month, or you could do 50/day & reach 3000 in 2 months. I guess it all depends on when you want to take the test. I have the Saunders book, & it's a good book. I do the CD questions at home, & when I go to work, I do questions from the book. I also have the Kaplan coursebook, it's alright, but I noticed that some things are not explained very well, & Saunders does a better job of explaining things. The Kaplan NCLEX-RN Exam book is good for test-taking strategies. Good luck.
