When do you do dishes?

Just a note... I am not anal about a clean house...

That stated, I am finding it hard to figure out when to do these things... there's always something for school to do. DH is very helpful but gone this week.

I came home from school on Friday feeling very overwhelmed. That night I laid in bed and relaxed myself by reminding myself that I had nothing really due this next week... just a math for meds quiz.

Well, Sunday I was reading in bed and decided to do the wellness eval that was required. When I finished I found out that I was very lopsided in the fitness area... and not positively. The eval only gave points for exercise 5 times a week... something I haven't worked into my schedule. I also found out that my crying (occaisionally over things that hurt me... question that I answered) was considered "aggressive" on my part.

That night I had a continuing dream... I was taking a test and couldn't find my pen. I was really behind. It was an essay test... where I rock... but I hadn't done my reading. When I would get a bit done, the pen would disappear again. I would get so upset that I would crawl under the desk and CRY!!!

I learned some things from that dream... be prepared... and don't do homework in bed!!!:roll

Specializes in 5 yrs OR, ASU Pre-Op 2 yr. ER.

I never do homework in bed. Bed is for 2 things, sleeping is one, the other, well, read about it in the A and P book once...

My house is a little disorganized, i'm trying to get some folders together so i have papers all over the floor.

Specializes in Critical Care.

Sandy,

Paper plates, plastic silverware, lots of paper towels.

Crying is aggressive?

This is what has been saving me. I bought a bunch of disposable aluminum pans from Sams. I baked up some extra meals. I bought tons of paper plates. On days that I don't have time to do dishes at all I do that. My kids are capable of cleaning up paper plates and utensils and cups. I throw out the aluminum pan and voila, done! I am going to have to cook up some more this weekend. I am soooo glad I did this or I don't think I'd have made it through the first two weeks of nursing school. Now that I am getting used to the schedule I clean when I can, do as much as I can when I can, and let everything else go until the weekend. My husband and kids have been in for a rude awakening this past few weeks. They all of a sudden seemed to realize how much work I really have done as a stay at home mom. Husband is exhausted, I am exhausted, but we are getting things done.

We use paper plates sometimes. My husband does the dishes if he can't find any clean ones.:). I try to cook fast and easy meals. We eat sandwiches and salads a lot.

Sandy,

Whenever the dishwasher is full. After meals, the dirty dishes go in a dishpan to be rinsed then get placed in dishwasher. When full, it gets turned on.

Specializes in med/surge.

Teresa, that is really encouraging. I start nursing school on Monday and am secretly worried that everything is going to fall apart on the kids/home front.

They won't give us a timetable until we walk in on Monday morning (15th) so I've no idea which days I'll need babysitters or whatever. The afterschool club at my kids school filled up on the first day, so I'll be looking at waiting lists...

I know I'm not indespensible, my husband happily irons his own shirts and does ALL the weekend cooking (he's a real foodie) and has offered to clean the bathrooms (with a little instruction!;) so I know once it all gets going, we'll be okay.

I just wish I could fast forward to about week 3 or 4.

dishes? cooking? What are those foreign things? :chuckle

When I'm in school, I RARELY do any major cooking. Just don't have the time or the energy. Frozen meals come in their own nifty little plates/trays. Sandwiches take no effort & you can eat 'em on a paper towel. I'm thinking my husband and I may try the Subway/Jared diet this term. :roll

Dishes? What are these things of which you speak?

One of the joys of having children is free labor...my 11 year old son has become proficient at doing dishes and laundry.....Do have to take him for a haircut though, child is starting to look like Lyle Lovett......

Specializes in Vents, Telemetry, Home Care, Home infusion.

I've found the anwer to the dishes: Let the kids do em!

They learn a very VALUABLE lesson when it's time for dinner and no clean plates---Ah the manly art of hand washed dishes;)

TWO WEEKS IN A ROW of hand washing all dishes cures em fast too.

Now If you have any sucess in getting a husband to scratch cook rather thatn every fast food restaurant I'm all ears....

My 15yo son can do a great job of cooking---made "home made" tomato sauce and you could taste the cinammon (his secret ingredient) for two days.

By the way,,,,

I graduated from nursing school in 1982

and work FT about 48 hrs a week.

It's doesn't change after graduating nursing school.

Hubby does a great load of wash and polishes my house every Christmas..... learned to compromise after 28 years of marriage.

Hello everyone,

You guys that are in full time programs what types of lunch do you pack to take with you to school. I am trying figure this out because I have to spend a great of time at school in the library. Any pointers. I have decided for my family I will make their dinner on Sunday which would include 2 meats, vegetables and their starch. Is there a board for nursing students that are mother's? If not we should start one.
