What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

I came across a man at work a few years ago named Bubble. It was on his drivers license and (someone who is braver than I asked) it was given to him at birth. :chuckle

I worked with a girl whose sister was having a baby and decided on a name she really liked. Of course, one of her other pregnant friends, who delivered two months previously, named her baby the exact same thing. This really upset the sister (I have never understood this) since she now could not name her baby the name she really liked. Her solution:  to pick a name that no one would steal. I swear, this was the reason she gave for deciding to name her child Nautica Maebelle. If she knew no one would steal it, then she must have known why and that is just cruel.

there were three baby girls borned the night my sister was and a set of twin boys, the girls all had very nice names Luisa, Rachel, and Jahmila (strange, but is arabic for princess i do believe or so my dad says) and drumroll...........

the boys were named Majestic Map and Scientific Map Allens or andrews i think

My sister had an african-american classmate back in the 1970's named Glossy White. My co-worker had a baby in June. Her name: Holly Winters. We recently had a child named Buck middle name Hunter. Demen-Tia was a little girl. Tara middle name Rizer.

Felony for a beautiful little baby girl. The social worker was called in and could not get the mother to change the name. They first of all figured that she did not know the word means but was not the case.

If you think those are strange, how about a set of twins named orangejello pronounced armongelo, and lemonjello pronounced lemongello...so help me thats the weirdest names I ever heard of...you recon the mom was craving jello during her pregnancy???? Sure beats me...:uhoh3: :uhoh3: :uhoh3: :uhoh3: :uhoh3: :uhoh3: :uhoh3: :uhoh3:

Specializes in Cath Lab/Critical Care.

I'm not touching the jello names, since I've heard those names as punch lines to jokes, and have had people for years saying, "I know someone that knows someone who saw kids with this name..." If you REALLY know kids with the jello names, yikes!:) Anyway, always like checking out the births in the local papers to scan the names...recent contributions: Persephone Jewel, Tarabithia Neveah(as in the kids book, Bridge to Tarabithia, I guess), Maryjane D'Lite, Aryan Kay (met mom at a Chuckie Cheese, she told me proudly that dad chose name because he is white supremist) and Brian James Seiman (not sure of the spelling, but its pronounced like ya think), went to school with him. He chose to go by the initials BJ, and joined the Navy just so he would be called Seaman BJ Seiman. Classy.

Specializes in Rehabilitation, Med-Surg.

i decided, since the 2nd "strange baby names" thread was getting so long, let's start another.

ready.....set.....go!

twins from last night - gypsy and cinnamon. (what a great start to their Media/stripper careers)

orion - (baby boy) - ok, this one did have a romantic, constellation engagement story behind it, so it's not so bad, but still a strange, out-there name.

orzio - another baby boy - poor kid

and, drumroll please.....................

happy birthday to the winner of the year:

queen messiah jesus christ :balloons: :balloons:

oh yes, that was the baby's full, legal name for the birth certificate. oh how wonderful.

give me a few more births to attend at work, and i'm sure to have more to add. i have definitely noticed a trend towards the unusual/unique names lately. some of them sound and look just like random letters thrown together, that i can't even recall them once i get home.

the poor, poor kids........

jen
