What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

Well I have a crazy name but we won't go there. But I have a aunt Cinderella, an uncle MC (that's his name) and another aunt Louisana. I love them all.

Wynn and Storm

Such wonderful, colorful names...

When I was in grade school (1960's - yeah, I'm that old) we had teacher who was facinated with the space race. She named her children

Space

Star

Rocket

Not quite ShiThead...but hey, you gotta be called something.. And there is always Peerless Price..

Right up until the day I was born my parents were going to call me JR. This was before the days of Dallas, and no, that wasn't going to stand for anything.

Also, one of my teachers at school is name Tom Thomason

i personally know: brown green, brown white, more than one charlie brown, thaedius yourhighness, willa tree (my aunt), william williams, and lest i forget deeora lee and sadie lois lucretia blanche carrothers

On the cable show Airline, there is a truly lovely employee named Yolande who has two kids. I don't remember what sex they are but they have the unfortunate pairing of Dallas and Kennedy.

Miranda

i decided, since the 2nd "strange baby names" thread was getting so long, let's start another.

ready.....set.....go!

one daddy was so in love with his new daughter, and she was his little princess, he insisted on naming her "princess." mom was a bit appalled, she made sure that the middle name was elizabeth so the kid would have a choice of which name to use. wish i could remember the last name, but frankly princess elizabeth is actually quite enough! :balloons:

My husband has a cousin Candy Cain...(real name).....our unit clerk is named Sekret.....My great great grandmother was named America, apparently not so unusual back in those days....a friend of mine graduated highschool with a girl named Stormy Dawn.....I know a Bliss, Johnny Johnson, David Davidson, Porsche, .....I had a patient who was an old man with the birth name of Baby, and went by that name........This one takes the cake...we have a Dr. Dumm....

I've heard of a mother naming her twin boys Winston and Salem. Yep, she was a chain smoker.

The strangest name that I ever heard was "Phantom" - yes, as in Phantom of the Opera. This was my cousin's "step mother-in-law" (if there's such a thing) daughter's name for a boy. The other kid had a weird name, too, can't remember it at the moment. With a name like Phantom, I don't think he'd have a ghost of a chance escaping playground teasing... or my bad sense of humor.

Needless to say, we did a lot of eye rolling when we heard that she'd named her baby Phantom.

America was an old old name. Worked in LTC for many years and we had many ladies named "America". A little of topic but one I will never forget... America... confused as a little bed bug looked me dead in the eye and said "You USED TO BE so pretty... what happened?" Will never forget that name or that little old lady!!!

More on topic... Tim Allen of Tool Time fame ... his real name is Richard Little and said for years he had to fight to not be called Dick!!!

Specializes in inpatient hospice house.

I worked in a NICU I talked someone out of naming their baby Meconium and the staff and social worker tallked someone else (16 year olds) out of calling their twin babies Shi'thead (pronounced Sha'heed and...sorry i can't remember what they were going to name the other twin. The reason we got social work involved on that one was because the kids were laughing as they were trying to think of a way to name them that would be funny. We considered it a sign of what type of parents they were about to become. It is one thing when you name your kid something like that out of stupidity but something else when you do it as a joke.

Just finished almost a year in a Pediatrics office, and some..okay, A LOT of the babies names were scary!!

The thing that amazes me, is these women name their children names that when you look at the spelling you can not figure out how to pronounce it, and the parent is actually angry that you misprounced the babies name.

Nevaeh was a very common one.

Growing up, my bestfriend was Tuesday Knight.

In High School there was a girl a year behind me named Tommora Dream

In 2 Doctors offices that I call frequently there is a Starr, Diamond, Bambi (yes, real name) and Jezell.
