My guess would also be that it would have a lot to do with both an age difference between the average poster on that BB and the average poster here, as well as a major difference between the proportion of male to female posters on each board. Young males tend to be much more immature than females on average (not that there aren't immature females as well).

Was just sitting wondering who else is required to have a valid CNA license to be accepted to their school's ADN program. I've looked into 3 schools here and 2 of them require it and one doesn't. I think that this is a good idea because it not only gives you a good intro to the nursing profession, but I think it will also help you to appreciate what CNAs go through once you become an RN.

I know exactly what you mean about struggling with whether or not what you're doing is worth the time that you're spending away from your kids. I know that I'm struggling with this right now with starting school and working full time. Right now I work full time during the day and will be taking classes at night and online. But my future plan once I complete my CNA is to working 3-12s Friday, Saturday and Sunday while taking nursing classes at night to complete my RN. This way I have all day during the day to be able to spend time with my wife and daughter, plus some time on the weekend as well.

Congratulations, I'm going to be starting my pre-reqs in a few weeks. I'm going the opposite order though, I'm starting with the CNA class.

I will be starting at Kishwaukee Community College in Malta, IL this fall. I will be taking: Rhetoric & Compostion Intro to Psych Basic Nurse Assistant Training (not required for pre-reqs, but would like to get experience in as a CNA while attending school before becoming an RN. I currently work in IT)

My wife reminded me of another one tonight, also regarding c-sections. Her friend was recently pregnant with twins. During one of their dr. visits they were told that there was a good chance that they would have to do a c-section even after starting natural labor. The dr. told her that he would give her the choice of trying to deliver naturaly or just going ahead with the c-section. After they go home her husband had the nerve to tell her: "I think if you just go ahead and have the c-section, then you're just taking the easy way out!" :rotfl:

All right, I've been watching this thread for a while now and just have to share a story about myself. My wife had gastric bypass surgery almost a year before we got pregnant. While she was pregnant she started having complications from the gastric bypass. She was in and out of the hospital for about 2 months before they decided at 6 months to remove her galbladder. Well it turns out that it wasn't her galbladder at all and that a 3" section of her intestines had died and she needed a bowel resection done 2 days later. That night she ended up going into labor and being airlifted to another hospital where she stayed for 1.5 months because our daughter was breech the whole time and my wife was 3cm. Anyway, while she was at the other hospital, one of the doctors was discussing with her the possibility of doing a c-section. I knew that my wife was worried about this possibility and so I made some kind of off-handed remark about how it wasn't really major surgery anyway to put her mind at ease and saying it in reference to everything else she had already been through. Well it's safe to say that I got a good lecture from the doc about how major that surgery was and how I shouldn't discount it as such. Believe me, I'll never make that mistake again.

I wanted to take A&P right away, but I've been out of school for 10 years now and never took bio anyway. Oh well, at least my school doesn't require any math if you score high enough on their placement test.

Well, I'm pretty excited. I finally got registered for my classes yesterday so that I can get started on my nursing pre-reqs. I am going to be taking General Biology, Rhetoric & Composition, Introduction to Psychology and Introduction to Sociology. All of these are going to be online except for the lab portion of the biology class. I know that this is a lot to take on while also working full time, but I'm just so excited to get going that I know I'll do well in all of them.

I don't know if the hospital would really be on that shaky of ground by doing a "random" drug test. While I agree that what you do on your own time is up to you, if you feel that this nurse's patients are in danger because of her drug use, then you should report her. The patients safety and well being should be the key here, not whether a friendship is in danger, a lawsuit could be brought or someone's feelings may get hurt.
