What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

Specializes in Operating room..

Oh...a poor soul where I used to work was named Candy...married a man with the last name of Weiner.

If you live in a small town, don't you think ridiculing your patients on a public web site is a bad idea? Especially in this context, of calling out unusual baby names of PATIENTS, who by the very nature of the unusual name would be easily identifiable. Patient names are PHI. All it would take is one person to utter the phrase "hipaa violation," to your employer, and your career would be over.

Hey shay, in fact I did used to have a poodle named Precious.

It puts the lotion on it's skin...

Physical or mental...one way or another...future "wound" nurse.

Specializes in NICU, ICU, PICU, Academia.

We get kids from the NICU for open heart surgery and/ or ECMO. When twins are born over there, they are identified as (for example) Smith, Girl#1 and Smith, Girl#2. When they transfer to us (we are technically a separate hospital) their given name migrates onto their paperwork, but somehow, the number stays. So we have Smith, Mary#2.

One of our intensivists called me and asked me something about Baby Smith, and referred to her as "Mary2 Smith- the '2' is silent" !!

Not weird, but an annoying spelling variation of Peyton - Peightyn. Middle name? Sophyia. ****Staaaahp!

Also, did anyone read about the lady who got arrested in Florida? Her name was Crystal Metheny.

Physical or mental...one way or another...future "wound" nurse.

Specializes in NICU, Trauma, Oncology.

I have a friend who named her daughter Maybee Roux. Very different.

Well, I don't live in a small town. If someone can figure out from my ambiguous screen name which state and city I'm in and which of the many hospitals I work for--and which one I *worked* for when said name was encountered--then more power to them.

*shakes head* Gimme a break.

So far I have heard the following from previously working in a birth center:

Iluvya (pronounced: I love ya...)

Chinesegirl (No, she was not Chinese)

Mychoice (teen pregnancy)

AND my all time favorite...

Ta-ya and La-a (pronounced: TaDASHya and LaDASHa... You pronounce the dash.)

My fiance and I decided we now have to carry on the tradition of abbreviation names and we shall name our future child....wait for it......

# (Hashtag) Hahaha! (* [Asterisk] was a close second, maybe for a girl...) :p

Had one today named Jihad........I have no words

There is a physician named Jihad (first name) at a hospital here.

The hospital is known for its billboards showing a patient on one side, and the physician who impacted their health on the other. I couldn't believe it the day I was driving and saw that they had made a billboard with him, including his full name plastered across it.

Specializes in PACU, OR.

Not for a girl! Asterix is the famous Gaulish warrior, and Obelix his sidekick. Anyone who's read the books will be asking her when she's going to whip out her magic potion!
