What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

There is a physician named Jihad (first name) at a hospital here.

The hospital is known for its billboards showing a patient on one side, and the physician who impacted their health on the other. I couldn't believe it the day I was driving and saw that they had made a billboard with him, including his full name plastered across it.

Maybe trying to get the message across that some Jihads aren't bad for you? Love to know what his parents had in mind for him, though.

It has bad connotations in light of events in the last decade or so, but all "jihad" means is "struggle." I can't imagine naming my kid "struggle" regardless of the language, but maybe his poor mom had a hard pregnancy or something.

Meconium. I asked the mother if she knew what it was, and told her after she said no. She still thought it was pretty and named her little girl that.

I'm in nursing school and during my NICU rotation there was a little boy named "Sincere."

I've seen Ryker/Riker as a boy name a couple of times in the last year.

Tonight I was watching a commercial for an upcoming Dancing with the Stars and saw there's some kid actor named Riker.

So what I thought was an odd tribute to a long out of fashion Star Trek character is probably more like an obsession with a teen star.

either way. . .

Geesh

one of. y co-workers was telling me a story from a few years ago that this Asian couple who spoke very little English had just had her baby girl and my friend wrote "female" on the baby bracelet and the dad was so surprised and grateful that we had named his daughter "female"and that he loved the name....I wonder if someone later explained it to them.....
