Just curious- how long do u think is too long? Given the job market, what is the longest you would drive??

less than an hour or I would have to move closer to work. I get too tired to drive longer than that after work. Right now I am 7 minutes away

I've been driving an hour commute to and from work for years, and finally just got a position in a hospital close to my home.. down to a 15 minute drive. I am so happy to have those 6-8 hours of my life back each week.

I've done an hour and a half commute, and that's okay (not great, but doable) on dayshift. Nightshift, not so much.

I do 45 min now, and that's alright, even on nightshift.

I *really* miss my 3 minute drive, though!

I work over 200 miles from where I live.

Ideal? Obviously not. It beat the heck out of being one of the thousands of California new grads without work, though.

30 min or less.

I'd say 1 hour.

30 minutes walking

When it means the difference between working and not working, I have driven over 2 and a half hours for a 35 mile away job or 70 miles in one direction. I do not stay with these unreasonable commutes for long, usually only long enough for the agency to find another employee. I have seriously considered just turning down these requests. My time and the extra expenses are not worth it for one or two shifts out of weeks of nothing.

I used to commute one hour - about 50 miles. Would spend a night or two a week at a friends house in the winter. I worked evenings and nights - got into an accident (luckily a minor fender bender very near my home, not on the freeway going 60 MPH) on the way home from work one morning and that was about it for me.

I'm older and have kids now so like to be within a 1/2 hour or so.

I start next week and my commute is 1 hr, without traffic. Although, there is ALWAYS traffic so it'll be more like 1 1/2-2 hrs. Blah, looks like I'll be moving closer, I'd be willing to do 45 mins.

The longest I've commuted in the past was about 40 minutes....now, I have a 12 minute drive. Much much better. With my situation and family life, if I had to find another job, I wouldn't commute over 45 minutes at the very most, just wouldn't be worth it.

It would depend on how desperate I am. For a long-term job, it's important for me to have a job that requires no driving. All major hospitals in Boston are accessible by public transit from my house with varying commute times. When I was looking for my first job, I considered some hospitals outside the city that I would have to drive to, but they would have only been temporary until I got a job in Boston. Thankfully, I didn't have to do that. My commute is about 45 minutes by bus/subway, 30 minutes by bicycle and 20 minutes by driving (during off-peak hours... I only drive on weekends or nights sometimes when I choose to).
