What's the longest you would commute for a job??

Just curious- how long do u think is too long? Given the job market, what is the longest you would drive??

Right now I commute almost an hour each way for school and depending on my clinical site it is an hour to an hour and a half. I would probably be comfortable with a 2 hour drive if that was the only job I could get.

45 minutes to an hour max

If I stay in this state, I will be looking any where from 45-75 minute commute. If I move, I would like to keep it under 30 minutes... to decrease my time and also save a little on gas money.

As with most questions about nursing "it depends".

That question leads to so many more...

Is it the "perfect job"? benefits? pay? hours? kids/daycare?

I live & work in the same city....feel fortunate to have that situation..but would certainly commute further if needed.

Many nurses I work with drive 45min-1hr. to the hospital.

30-40 miles it would have to be less than 1 hour drive each way

I live in Seattle and love it there. I work in Tacoma and hate it there. There is about an hour drive and I dont have a car. Luckily my hospital pays my bus pass. Given that I have only recently graduated from school, new grad jobs were impossible to find, I couldn't turn down the job. I share an apt. in Tacoma with a friend, and still have my place in Seattle and live the best of both worlds. Be creative.

I'd say an hour, although I know nurses who would do longer. Also, how long is the shift? I would personally be willing to drive longer if I was working 12 hours as opposed to 8. Given the economy, some flexibility appears to be necessary. I know a nurse who commutes 3 hours one way, works her 40 hours in 3 days, then goes back home. (this is private duty). It all depends on a person's situation.

I drive an hour one way, sometimes an hour and fifteen or even an hour and a half if there is traffic.

I used to do an hour. That changed a year ago and now I only drive 20 minutes. I would NEVER again drive that far for whatever reason. It does depend on the person and job. I just know one hour is too much now that I am used to the 20 minute drive.

I guess I have been lucky. My commutes have mostly been around 15-20 minutes. At my previous job there were a couple of nurses that had a little over an hour one way.
