I've been here for seven years, and have never received a friend request. Now all of a sudden, I've received four of them in the past month. I've friended everyone who has requested, because I'm generally a genial, likable person (contrary to how ornery I may appear here at times), but I'm not really sure on what purpose "friending" someone here serves?
Anyone know?
HA! How do you do the "friend" thing on here??
you click on the poster's profile page (blue circle) and on the right, it gives you an option to "befriend".
i've sent friend requests to people who either i've known for awhile (and obviously like), and/or appreciate a person's posts/input.
it's an olive branch, if you will.
after that, i feel no further obligations.:)

I just got my first friend request. It was from someone I never heard of, who has posted 1 time since joining today. What I don't like about the friend request feature is that I *must* accept or reject it. Why can't I click something like "ignore" and have the request go away? I don't want to be rude and outright reject friend requests, but really, I don't come to AN to socialize.

I've had two friend requests floating up on my screen for a loooooong time that I just ignore.
It's not a feature I'm really interested in either....there are posters whose screen names I recognize, folks I have had regular conversations with via pm, but what I don't like about the friends list is that it is public, so is not really just for me, but for everyone who visits my profile to see. That's a little facebook-y for my taste (and I love facebook for certain things). So, I just opt out of that feature.

Dude. Tell me about it. I only have two friends. And Mom didn't even let me go to kindergarten.
