I'm going to call and ask next week, but do you wear scrubs on non-lab/clinical days, or just street clothes?

I never had a dress code for class, and thought that this thread was a little silly. (Not really, because everyone is just curious). Anyways yesturday was my first day of Summer semester and it turns out, just my luck, that we can't wear shorts/short skirts or opened toed shoes in my Chemistry lab. I didn't have this in Bioloby but I can see their concerns. Hah, it's a little silly because we are in the Sunshine state :)

In my Classes that had labs like Chem, Organic Chem, Micro, A&P 1+1 we couldn't wear opened toe shoes or shorts but for obvious reasons. All our classes where no chemicals and stuff are involved we can.

Someone made the mistake of wearing flip flops to our cadaver lab. Well when the scalpel ended up at attention in her foot she learned why closed toed shoes was a rule. It might suck when its warm but its for a reason.

OUCH!!!!! We have had pee and other bodily fluids spill in labs. Yea closed toe shows and a change of clothes for those days.

I noticed that some medical schools have a dress code even for theory classes. That is quite interesting to me. Maybe it isn't the worst idea in the world.

We can wear whatever to theory days. If we are in the lab then it's scrubs or at the very least a lab coat. Clinicals: everyone in their whites.

I wore casual dresses, shorts and tees in the summer, yoga pants, tees and hoodies, legging and long sweaters in the winter.

At the school I'm attending...no street clothes are allowed. You wear a specific color scrubs to lecture/skills lab...and then another specific color scrubs on clinicals. White tennis shoes are also a must. I do think it is more appropriate that way.

I get that a lot. :lol2:

Mostly I just wondered if people had to wear uniforms, scrubs, dress code stuff, etc. Especially for the first day. Like, if you don't come in the right clothes you get sent home kind of hardass stuff. The older I get, the more I like the idea of uniforms, for work and daily life. Mine is jeans and long-sleeved shirts. I wear a lot of smashed banana, so the cheaper my togs, the less I worry about them being stained.

It's not a silly question, my school has a dress code. I just think its a lot easier to just make scrubs mandatory. that way everyone is equal and you dont have to worry about what you wear. it looks more professional too. Everyone is always excited to wear scrubs to school because while they are learning and doing skills, it makes them feel like the real deal!

I'd wear scrubs 24/7 if I could get away with it. Comfy! Cheap! Everything I want in clothes in one soft cotton package. Ahhh.
