Well...when I FIRST decided to go to nursing school I knew I wanted to be in L&D. Then I decided that I wanted to be in pediatrics. Then oncology. I really think I would like to work in pediatric oncology. But I might not. What I know for sure is that I absolutely positively do not want to work in any sort of ER or trauma setting. Don't want to have to set foot in there. Not my cup of tea. Most things I can deal with, but the mere possibility of someone coming in with a severed body part in a baggie turns me off to it.
Tele-nurse,
you are NOT the only one that doesn't know yet what they want to do. I started school wanting to be an OR nurse and then changed to CCU, but now I'm not so sure about that either. It is so hard to know what will be a good fit right now. I think that I will just do Med/surg for a while and then decide if I want to move elsewhere. I really do not like Med/surg so maybe it will be the best choice for me, in the way that it has been my biggest challenge so it might be the place where I learn the most????? Who knows. I just can't do anything in Peds.
Best wishes to you!

I wish I knew! I have always wanted to work OB (eventually to become a CNM/WHNP), but I also love Psych nursing. I will choose one of them! (this sounds strange, but I think I am going to get a degree in Business, rather than my BSN, then go on for my MSN. I like the idea of being flexible no matter what. There are also many universities that offer a dual MBA/MSN. That might be an interesting option.)
GOOD LUCK to everyone in the next semester!

No, seriously now, what clinical areas is everyone interested in working in after graduation????
I really like cardiac nursing, but since I have been in school, I have been interested in labor and delivery.
Does anyone else have this problem, decided what they really want to do:confused:
Is there anyone else out there with these same probs?
