What do you use to transport your books?

I bought a rolling briefcase type of thing to bring my books back and forth to class. I did this mainly becasue I have 3 of my 4 classes on the same days (plus a lab) and there are 6 books I wil have to transport most days. I am 34 and did not want a back pack because it would be very heavy for my back. My 16 year old son says they are going to make fun of me for having a rolling briefcase. Will they? Not that it matters (I told him I am going to learn, not make friends) but I was just wondering if I will stick out.

I have a rolling bookbag that I take to class with me...and a regular bookbag I take to clinicals. Who cares if anyone laughs at least your back will thank you. My instructors have reccomended always bringing our nursing books to school with us. Just my med/surg book alone weighs about 100lbs I swear...never mind the other 3 that go along with just that one class. :rotfl:

I also have a rolling backpack and it saves your back on flat surfaces. On stairs, not so fun! No one makes fun of me. Half the class has them. Our instructors encouraged us to get them on day 1. We don't really use our books in lecture, but I spend a lot of time in the library between classes reading, so I always bring mine.

I used airport-style luggage (a bag on wheels).

Same here.

My husband & kids bought me a rolling backpack last February for my birthday. It lasted me until this past December. The wheels were plastic and I guess it was too much bumping up & down the stairs, etc. They finally broke.

However - I do plan on getting something else very similar when my nursing classes start. I personally don't want to go out in the weather between classes to get books. We also have lockers, but I guess it will just depend. I'm kind of like above posters - I would like to have it all with me in case I decide to hit the library or an impromptu study session....

Go for it! They are great - just try to get one that has a sturdy set of wheels :)

I use a rolling bookbag too. Some make fun, but I could care less. My back doesn't need the strain and besides I am always prepared to class!

Now, that I am in the nursing program.......I think I'll upgrade to a regular rolling suitcase............lol

I use a rolling dufflebag. It was suggested at orientation that we might want to get something on wheels. I can't imagine lugging those cement blocks they call textbooks around. Most everyone here has wheels. Of course our building is a totally seperate campus with nothing but health education programs.

Well, after reading this, I'm gonna get my rolling suitcase out.

If someone makes fun of me, oh well. I have to wear my uniform for skills lab, so maybe when they see me with it on they'll know why I need such a big bag for my books!

Trunk of my car and a small side bag. Running up the stairs and back to my car between classes on the rare days that I need more than one book is one of my last, treasured forms of exercise ;)

Oh great, I forgot about my commitment to exercise more by starting with taking more steps, parking further away etc.

Ok, I'll keep doing the above and if it's not raining and it's over 30 degrees out, I'll go to my car between classes.

I'd better lose like 30 pounds. :p :p

I don't bring my books to class with me. We've never needed them, since our instructors just assign reading/chapters in them, and all they do is follow a Powerpoint presentation.

They do weigh a TON though - over 45 pounds when they were shipped, so I'd get a rolling backpack if I had to bring any to class with me too!

my school rents out lockers to students for a small feel.

:rotfl: :rotfl: i'm sorry... i had to giggle when i saw this. those lockers must mean a lot to them!

both nursing schools i've applied to, including the one where i currently take my pre-reqs, are full of nursing students with rolling backpacks. it's actually a good way to spot them! i think they're awesome (the students and the bags, actually) and am planning to get one myself when i start clinicals. i want to preserve my back! i also have really short legs as it is, and i don't need to have a ton of books on my back slowing me down all the more...

so, for those of you who have them, what kind do you have? i'd love to hear some recommendations. my hubby is actually trying to hunt one down for me - my birthday is right before clinicals start, and he's already said he wants to make that one of my presents.
