CDE I want my RN (an ADN will work for my career goal) and then I will be returning to school for an RD (Bachelors required for a registered dietcian). I want to work with at risk diabetics (Native American, Hispanic, and African American) doing complex nutritional intervention and education in self care and management. I am hoping one day to truly change how diabetics are cared for in this country. I've got big dreams :)
I am hoping to start in a BSN program in fall 2013 since this is my last semester of pre reqs (just A & P 2 left!!). After I graduate in spring 2015, I would like to get experience in the ER or ICU. Sometime before 2017 I would like to apply & get into a graduate program to become a gerontological nurse practitioner.
I am in an ABSN program now, ultimately I want to do advanced practice but I am not sure what specialty. I am mainly considering ACNP or PMHNP but FNP and CRNA isn't out of the question. I also want to persue a DNP or DNAP at some point in my career too. Not for any professional reason, just so I can say I have a doctorate.
I am in an LPN-RN bridge and I Graduate may 2013. I hope to work in the ER. I plan to return to a school Aug 2013 for BSN and eventually NP. My plan is to try to experience as many different avenues as my career will allow( ER ,OR, cath lab, ICU, psych).I have worked in Ltc, hospice and home health. I really want to become a travel nurse and eventually teach and give back what others have given me :)!
Awesome question, I love knowing what people are aiming for in their education.
While I am still early on in my journey to becoming even a BSN prepared nurse (last year of prereqs!), I know I'll want to further my education post-bachelors. I'm a student before anything else, I love knowledge, I love knowing everything. So for my long term career goal I'll definitely want to pursue some kind of advanced practice nursing masters degree.
As for what I see as far as what department I want, when I get my bachelors I really want to go into a challenging field in nursing. I work best under pressure and really enjoy the blood and guts aspect of healthcare. I recently shadowed at a teaching hospital which, thanks to a friend of my parents, allowed me to sit in their gallery to watch a heart bypass, from that experience I know I would LOVE to be a scrub/preoperative nurse. I could also see myself being a trauma nurse. Something where time is a factor, expertise is critical, and every move counts.
The best part of nursing, in my opinion, is the amazing opportunities you'll have to go in whatever field you please! How cool is that! My aunt began as a NICU nurse and while her kids were in school, she became a school nurse, and is now getting her masters to be an NP in peds. What other career gives you that type of diversity?
I start my adn program in January. My first goal is to just make it through and graduate! Then I would like to work in a hospital while I work on my np. At the moment I love the surgery environment by I'm sure that will change when I'm in school doing clinicals and seeing more. Ultimately I would love to be a family np.

Just curious...After you graduate and have your career, where do you want to be exactly? I am on the fence right now, but I am leaning towards labor and delivery. Whats everyone elses and why? Id love to get different ideas and point of views :)
