What are your ultimate goals?

Published

Just curious...After you graduate and have your career, where do you want to be exactly? I am on the fence right now, but I am leaning towards labor and delivery. Whats everyone elses and why? Id love to get different ideas and point of views :)

My immediate goal is to finish my prerequisites and be accepted to a BSN program. When I am done with that, I'd like to serve the public in an emergency department. I am a survivor of sexual assault and my longterm goal is to become a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. I truly believe in the value of SANE/SART programs and want to help to establish more of these programs in hospitals around the country. My pipe dream is to get an advanced degree at a really fancy pants university like Johns Hopkins and go on to practice forensic nursing or teach at the BSN level.

I have a list of goals. Starting from short to long term

1. Finish my prereqs next semester with 4.0 (taking A&P 2, chemistry, stats, Eng 112, and history of Arts).

2. Be accepted into a BSN program to either start in fall 2013 or spring 2014.

3. Work a few years in ICU, med-surg, cardiac, and a few other fields.

4. Become a travel nurse thru the experience that I gained.

5. Either go back to school for my MSN or DNP to become a CRNA or FNP.

6. Pass my vast knowledge to new nurses or nursing students.

But one step at a time lol.

I still have a ways yet but I would love to work in trauma. I've always been fascinated with traumatic injuries. I love watching documentaries about it. I might change my mind but who knows. I was also thinking about labor and delivery. I think once I start clinicals and get a little experience I'll know better. I'm working as a waitress now to get the feeling of constantly running around and I love it. I know it's no where near what a trauma nurse does but we'll see where I end up.

Specializes in Critical Care, Med-Surg, Psych, Geri, LTC, Tele,.

Im enrolled in LVN school. I've completed most of the prereqs needed to apply to the state university BSN.

I very much want to earn my DNP. Dr. Vintage Mother is my goal!

I'm still pretty early in the journey, but I want to work in the PACU and potentially become a CRNA farther in the future.

I'm entering a MS program for my CNL with hopes of becoming a trauma nurse and eventually a flight nurse, but I'm also keeping an open mind with all of my clinicals because I know if a few friends who thought they know what they wanted to go into and had one clinical experience change it.

Im starting my BSN program in April..

I am hoping to go all the way to DNP

i would love to become a ER/Trauma Nurse with the ocassional PRN Flight Nurse gig.. (same as the poster above)

if that dosnt pan out, I am open to psych nursing as well as geriatric nursing

Specializes in OR.

My only ultimate goal is a degree and a job. Beyond that, I'm keeping my options open.

Before I considered nursing I wanted to be an ultrasound technician. But when I looked more into it I've decided to be a neonatal nurse! I love babies and I just can't wait to take care of newborns for a living. 

Thats what I wanted to be too! It still isnt out of the question yet though :)

But I love reading everyones posts! you all have great goals and its actually very inspiring. at first I was just going to get my LPN and see what happens after that, but after reading all your posts, everyone has such awesome dreams, im reconsidering mine! Keep them coming!

I love the fact that you planned out all of your goals reasonably! I might do that! For me its like "I wanna be an LPN!" but maybe I should make them more short term like "I wanna get accepted first!" lol :)

I am interested in pediatric nursing.
