Thanks for stopping by and letting me know about your posting. I was accepted and I start late September as well, and I will be following you. So nice to have someone else along this journey.
  2. VA residency

Has anyone gone through the VA residency for NPs? Primary or geriatric? I would like some insight on the program.
  3. OR Circulator Experience before NP?

I have been a circulator for the past 6 years, and I finish NP school in December.
  4. USA FNP Program

Finishing up Dec 2021. It was an OK program. I was tough for me at first but I also has alot of personal issues going on. I had to cut my schedule to 32 hours a week to get in 3 days a week for clinicals. Before clinicals I was working 40-50 hours a ...
  5. UTEP MSN nursing education

Hello, I see this thread is about two years old. I applied and got in back in 2016. I took one semester off for health issues, and I just graduated May 2018. It was a great program
  6. No, you should not postpone nursing school.
  7. Average amount of call time for OR nurses?

It depends on the OR. I work in a non trauma OR so we do 2 days a month. I sign up for three so that I wont ever get placed in an open slot. So, thats ! weekend and 1 week day. So, about 24 hours in a month. I would say you would need about 1 year to...
  8. ER to OR

I made the move about three years ago from ER to OR. I dont love it but it works for me at the moment. I miss using my skills. I didnt become a nurse to just chart, position, and answer the doctor's phones.
  9. How to transition from OR nursing to the floor?

I did LTC, Hospice, Home Health, and ER before I went to the OR. After 3 years I am bored but I have no idea where I want to go. I am currently getting my MSN and I dont have to think hard nor am I under pressure. I do miss my skills and I am thinkin...
  10. Northside Hospital Atlanta

Sadly you wont learn scrub experience at Northside. Wellstar, Emory and possibly Grady will teach scrubbing.
  11. Florida versus Georgia Pay

Georgia is a low paying state as well. New grads could get anywhere from 18/hr for a rural hospital to 22-26/hr for a city hospital.
  12. Job Hopper

What about trying a different setting. They have Hospice, Home Health and the pay is better and normally you can make your own schedule. Also what about a doctor's office or clinic?
  13. How did you spend your first nursing paycheck?

Tuition towards RN classes, scrubs, and nursing books tools to help me transistion from student to competent nurse.
  14. OR call schedule

We dont have a large OR. Most nurses work 7-3 or 7-7. We have a few other shifts like 9-5, 11-7, 11-11, and 7p-7a. We day shifters take one weekday call of 11-7 and One weekend call your choice 7-3, 3-11, or 11-7. We have a CVOR team and they do thei...
  15. struggling in orientation

Your skills will come in time. You know a lot more than you think you do. I have been in the OR for 18 months, with many of those months totally on my own and doing procedures I never done on my own. I guess they saw nothing scared me because I came ...
