The college I attend will be offering A&P1 and A&P2 in six week increments over the summer. I would be able to do the lecture portion of A&P1 online and go to campus for the lab. Both lecture and lab for A&P2 are being only offered on campus. Would you consider taking either class in such a short time span? Would you consider taking another class along with a six week A&P1 or a six week A&P2?
I know A&P is a lot of studying. I'd like input from anyone who has already taken A&P. Please tell me how manageable you think it would be for me to take these classes given my situation--I'm a Stay at home mom to a 2 year-old and a 10 month-old.
I would really appreciate any feedback anyone has!
Thank you in advance for any advice!

futureflrn--I took Microbiology last summer over 8 weeks while working 40 hours a week. It was doable, however, you will have ABSOLUTELY no other time because all of your time must be spent studying:twocents:. I took A&P I last semester (16 weeks) and I cannot imagine cramming all of that information into only 6 weeks. I am currently enrolled in A&P II and I feel equally the same about that. They are both very demanding courses, and, depending on which allied health field you want to get into (I'm guessing nursing, or you probably wouldnt be on this forum:rolleyes:) you will need to have the BEST possible grades, since the schooling is so competitive. How does your husband feel about this? Is it absolutely necessary that you get them both done this summer, because you really should aim towards getting the best possible grade, and still make time for the little ones:redpinkhe Hope this could be of some sort of help to you. Best of luck to you in all of your endeavors.

I took A&P I over a 10-week period of time and that was pretty tough. I had lecture 6 hours a week and lab for an additional 4. I spent a lot of my time out of class studying for the exams we had every week (one week would be lecture and the next would be lab). Both A&P classes cover A LOT of information. They are tough classes for anyone and they require hard work and a lot of studying.
I gotta say, either of the A&P classes in 6-weeks seems a bit insane to me and I don't have little ones at home...when you mix in two kids who are at an age where they need a lot of attention, it gets even more crazy. You might be able to do it if you only took one class and had consistent sitters for the kids, but it would be tough.
Perhaps some things to ask yourself:
-How concerned are you about your grade? Obviously you want to pass, but would you be concerned with barely passing?
-How much outside support would you have taking care of the kids?
-How badly do you need to get these classes done? If getting the classes done is merely for convenience, you may want to try another route. If you have to get them done to get into a program or graduate on time, then do what you need to do to get them done!
-How easily do you absorb info? If you are someone who needs a lot of time, a 6-week course might not be your thing.
-How well do you handle stress? The weekly tests almost killed me...well, they killed my husband and HE almost killed me. :)
-How much of your summer are you willing NOT to experience? Do you want to have the time to take your kids to the park or a swimming pool? You will likely not have much time to do that sort of thing with such an accelerated class schedule.
I wish you the best of luck in making your decision!

Shoot! I am taking it right now over a 16 week semester and its kicking my butt. I am getting A's but I have never been in a harder class. I have tons of writing in mine, not so much memorization... if you can do it in 6 weeks, more power to you! I don't know if I could do it myself, I intentionally took it in a regular semester so I would have as much time as possible to work on it. However I will be taking AP2 this summer during a 10 week semester but figured I would at least have an idea of the concepts in that one. Good luck to you!!!

I took A&PI in Summer Session, 8 weeks, and I can't imagine doing such a course load justice in a shorter time span! If you decide to do the 6 week version, my advice would be to let that be the only thing you do for those weeks. Those two classes are so very important in nursing, and they require undivided attention, imho. Good luck to you!

I took an anatomy only class during a five week summer session while holding a full time job. I would not do that again.

Accelerated classes are kinda fun but I wouldn't take more than one hard one and be prepared to have no life.

I'm taking A & P II (lecture & lab) this summer over a 4 week period. I don't work and I have 3 children b/w 6-11 YOA. They'll be at day camp so that I can attend lecture & lab everyday and have time to study after classes. During the summer, we'll cover a chapter per class and there's a test every Friday of those 4 weeks. I know we'll be in lab 6 hours per week but I'm not sure how often we'll have a practicum. I think even in 4 weeks it won't be too bad since I won't have to worry about my children being in school & helping them w/homework, projects, etc. I have serious doubt that I'd take this class in a short time span if my children were still so young that they depended on me for everything (preparing all their meals, potty-training, diaper changing, etc.).

Like you, I plan to take A&P I during the first 6 weeks and A&P II during the 2nd 6 weeks of this summer session. I am praying that I come out of it all in one piece! I am actually re-taking these prereqs because the accelerated BSN I wish to attend required these classes be taken within the last 7 years, and I first took A&P I and II literally 20 years ago. I guess that is as good as taking it for the first time! Ask me if I kept my notes from back then ... NOT! UGH! Wish me luck ... good luck to you too!

I took A&P II over the winter module at my school, which is a six week course. It was pretty tough since they are cramming all that information into six weeks. Class met four nights a week as well, so all my time was spent either studying, in class, or working. No time for anything else, but I think it's doable and I'm happy I did it and got it out of the way. Six weeks goes by so fast, and that's one more pre-requisite under your belt. Plus, my professor was hot so that made it more tolerable:D

I took a seven week A&P I class last summer as a stay-at-home mom of a one year old. It was a lot of work and studying but I earned an A in the class. I studied while they napped and after they went to bed. My husband also helped by taking over some evenings and weekends. I was originally signed up for a chemistry class as well but found out the first week it would have been impossible for me to do both so I wouldn't recommend doing any other classes along with the accelerated A&P.
