  1. Congrats to all of you who got into AASU'S BSN program. I'm now a Senior 1 and will be starting my 3rd semester of the nursing program in the Fall. This is a great nursing program. I'm a post-bac student and also a mom and wife. So far, I'm doing very well. This program requires you to be organized and you cannot procrastinate with reading & studying. If you have opportunity to work as a PCT via the S.T.E.P. program with St. Joseph's/Candler or as a PCT at Memorial, take advantage of it. We've been told having your foot in the door somewhere will help with landing an RN job after graduation. RN jobs in Savannah for new grads aren't as easy to come by anymore. Apparently AASU is turning out more of us each semester than Savannah hospitals can accomodate.
  2. I came off the wait list about a month after being put on. Don't get discouraged if you're wait listed or rejected. You never know how things might change. I know of a couple people who applied for Spring 2010 early because they were flat out rejected for Fall 2009 and they were admitted into the Fall program just a couple days before our orientation in August.
  3. This is my last week of a 4 week summer Micro course. I've gotten an A on each of our tests so far but I still have the final exam to go. I'm so glad there's a light at the end of this tunnel & it's not a train :chuckle.
  4. I just completed a 4 week A & P II class (I got an "A"). I started this 4 week Micro class 5 days later. I have to complete both classes this summer to keep my seat in my BSN program this Fall. The 2nd week just started. I got an "A" on our first test (this past Monday). We have 3 more tests, all of which will occur on a Monday. That's a good thing considering that it gives us the weekend to study. Now, having said all of that, this is a LOT of work to do in 4 weeks. Our regular semester is 16 weeks. I think my 3 kids & my hubby are tired of me being holed up in a room studying for hours EVERYDAY. Heck, "I'M" tired of being holed up in a room studying for hours everyday. Well, back to the books...
  5. My Micro class starts in July and it's only 4 weeks long. I'm nervous but I've been in a 4 week A & P II class for the past 3 weeks to prepare me for the fast pace. Micro is my last pre-req. I start my nursing classes for my BSN in August!
  6. I got "A"s on my lecture exam & lab practicum on the blood vessels and respiratory system! :w00t:
  7. This 4 week A & P II class is kickin' my butt! I'm up now (in the wee hours of the morn) studying for a lecture test on the blood vessels & respiratory system tomorrow. I can only study at night once our children have gone to bed & the house is quiet. Unfortunately, that sometimes means all nighters for me. This week is the start of week 3 and we're having our 2nd lecture test and 3rd lab practicum tomorrow. We're likely to have a 4th lab practicum on Wednesday. So far, I have an "A" b/c I'm putting A LOT of time into studying.....but I feel like I need to come up for air!!!
  8. I've wondered about this myself. I start nursing school fall '09 and won't have time before August to start & finish CNA classes. My thoughts were to see if I can complete the CNA classes next summer '10 & try to get a part time job at one of the hospitals during my last 2 semesters of nursing school. Another graduate of my BSN program told me that already having a job at a hospital will increase my chances of being accepted into the hospital's nurse residency program (which are competitive around here).
  9. I'm also taking A & P II this summer (4 weeks long) at a school here in Georgia. We can help each other through it. I'm nervous about taking A & P II in such a short time span when the normal semester is 16 weeks but I know we can both do this. We'll put in the work and come out of this with 'A's.
  10. I'm taking A & P II and Micro this summer but not simultaneously. Each class is really fast-paced as they only last 4 weeks each. I'm already reading for the A & P II class which starts June 2nd. I also have a study guide for Micro that I'll start reviewing in the one week break I'll have in between A & P II (ends in late June) and Micro (starts July 6th). I start the actual nursing classes for my BSN in the fall so I guess this will be good preparation for all the reading I'll have to do for those classes.
  11. Armstrong Atlantic State Univ in Savannah has a BSN program that accepts students in Spring and Fall. It's competitive so you may want to visit their nursing dept's website (www.armstrong.edu). There were at least 3-5 people in our nursing orientation for fall 2009 who had transferred in from other schools. They were accepted for the nursing program and had not taken any classes at AASU. I hope this helps and good luck!
  12. I still have to finish my last 2 pre-reqs (A & P II and Micro) this summer with "C"s or better and then I start nursing school in the fall. I was initially on a wait list and was offered a seat in the program about 3 weeks ago. I was so excited to come off the wait list. I start my nursing classes in August. Do all nursing students take pretty much the same classes, regardless of school of attendance? My fall lineup of classes are: Professional Nursing Practice (3 credits), Pathophysiology (3 credits), Intro to Pharmacology (2 credits), Health Assess/Well Indiv (4 credits w/lab), and Skills/Essen of Nursing Practices (4 credits w/lab). I'll have about 2 weeks in between the end of summer school and my next meeting with my nursing school cohort (about 80 of us). Well good luck & congratulations to us all!
  13. In March I received my "neither yes nor no" letter....in other words, wait . Despair set in for a moment but then my faith returned. I registered to take my last 2 pre-reqs in summer school anyway when I could have just put one of them off until Fall & accepted that I might not come off the wait list. Just one month after receiving the wait list letter, I was offered a spot to start nursing school in the Fall. I am glad that I registered to take those last 2 pre-reqs in summer school since they have to be completed w/a "C" or better before I start my nursing program in the Fall. No matter what, just don't give up or give in. Remain hopeful because you never know what might happen. I wish you the best of faith, luck, & hope!
  14. I'm on the wait list for AASU for Fall 2009. If I don't come off the wait list, I'll have to reapply for Spring 2010. It's frustrating because my GPA and NET scores are higher than students I know who were admitted for Fall 2009. According to what I've learned on the student rumor mill, the problem is that the majority of my core hasn't been done at AASU. I already have a 4 yr degree from a different university. By Fall 2009, I will have been at AASU only 3 semesters taking the A & P courses, Micro, HIST 1100. If I have to reapply for Spring 2010, I'm going to have to suck it up and also apply to GSU's nursing program. I just dread the thought of driving all the way to GSU's campus.
  15. I'm taking A&P 2 and Micro-organisms & Diseases this summer....4 weeks each. One of the instructors for the A&P 2 lecture/lab is SUPER difficult and speaks in a monotone that will lull a person to sleep. I'm hoping that when it comes time for summer registration, I'll be able to enroll for A&P 2 w/my current A&P 1 instructor. I'll have 8 mind-boggling weeks to contend w/this summer but at least I'll have my last pre-reqs done!
