Thanks. That’s a pretty close match for what I’ve been picking up here and there.

It appears the moral majority is getting a little antsy. I think they’ve been working on this for at least half a century - can you blame them?

Good news for Biden.   SCOTUS sides with him, and thus the border will be more porous.

How does this make border more "porous"?

I think it makes more sense to expedite their asylum denials and send them back to their country of origin.

It's having asylum seekers accumulate on the border, vin conditions that only encourage them to try and cross illegally that makes for more illegal entries into the US.

Trump Eyes Early 2024 Announcement as Jan. 6 Scrutiny Intensifies https://nyti.ms/3RgV34X

The timing of a formal announcement from Mr. Trump remains uncertain. But he recently surprised some advisers by saying he might declare his candidacy on social media without warning even his own team, and aides are scrambling to build out basic campaign infrastructure in time for an announcement as early as this month.

That timing would be extraordinary — presidential candidates typically announce their candidacies in the year before the election — and could have immediate implications for Republicans seeking to take control of Congress in November. Mr. Trump’s presence as an active candidate would make it easier for Democrats to turn midterm races into a referendum on the former president, who since losing in 2020 has relentlessly spread lies about the legitimacy of the election. Some Republicans fear that would distract from pocketbook issues that have given their party a strong advantage in congressional races.

Quote

“Republicans want to win badly in 2022, and it is dawning on many of them that relitigating the 2020 election with Trump’s daily conspiracy diatribes are sure losers,” said Dick Wadhams, a Republican strategist and former chairman of the Colorado Republican Party.

The former president’s team remains divided over whether he should even run again. Those opposed to a third White House bid have expressed concerns ranging from doubts about Mr. Trump’s remaining political potency to questions about whether he can articulate a clear rationale for running and avoid a repeat of 2020.

It seems that some Republicans are beginning to recognize that it may not be a winning strategy to keep their wagon hitched to Trump.

Pompeo is thinking about a run for the presidency if Trump doesn't run.  I don't think that he could compete with DeSantis.

Probably not. DeSantis is tunneling into Trump’s base very aggressively and neither Trump nor his remaining crew are particularly competent, aeb the entire Jan 6 saga. They’re all still dangerous, though.

I would agree.  DeSantis really elevated his name recognition during covid among Trump supporters. It seems like Pompeo would need to get his name out there starting now... not that I'm interested in another dishonest Trump sycophant rushing to the top.

I think more about who is going to run for the Independents and the Democrats.  Are there any up and comers who are being groomed to run?  This makes me more nervous than Trump running because I think to 2024 his star will have turned into a black hole.

You don't believe that Biden will run?  And, if he doesn't, don't you think Harris will be the nominee?

Maybe and maybe.

Will Trump announce? Will he get broad support among republican voters?

Desantis is going to beat any of them bigly.  Democrats are required to appease the extreme element of their party to win the nomination.   Therefore independents and even middle and slight right dems are going to vote Republican.

Does this mean you are opposed to the former president making a third presidential run?

And for what it's worth, this independent will not vote for Desantis. I think many us are aware of his denial of science throughout the pandemic.

No.  If he meets the requirements.  I don’t believe he will get the nomination if Desantis runs.
