Something to understand what nurses think about re the Current News and their opinions!
4 hours ago, subee said:Sez you. It's already been pointed out to you that we are obligated to determine their asylum status before we can turn people away. It is a LAW. I don't see any Republicans coming up with a solution. If I've missed something, please list their proposals. If it weren't a LAW that they are entitled to an asylum review, then the case wouldn't be in the Supreme Court. It will be interesting to see how the Supreme Court will decide this without having to demonstrate that they don't believe in laws.
read the previous posts about international law. I might be wrong but I believe somewhere about 99% of the asylum seekers are denied.

It's called the truth.
I believe what the member is alluding to is the "replacement theory" where white people are in fear of being replaced.
I think you are referring to democrats creating a voting base. So perhaps could be described as voter relacemennt/creation).
I will allow you to clarify if you are describing "replacement theory" as your belief before I make any judgment as to how "ugly" something may be.
I wonder if 99% of them are denied under the Biden administration, what is all the fuss? Also, how is it that the 1% that make it through have the right to vote Democrat or even the right to vote. Riddle me this please.
I would venture to say refugees and new immigrants probably do vote because they take their citizenship seriously. Unlike Americans that have a poor voter turnout.
I'm just not convinced that Democrats need voters and want to recruit them through illegal immigrations. Especially given that Biden won during Title 41.

How many are refused is irrelevant to your argument because they have to receive some services from our government while they wait for their court hearing. That is the law passed by the US congress. Don't complain to us if you don't like it; complain to your legislators. I'm not sure that I'm not the only person here depressed by your hatred.
Posting some clarifying information re voting, citizenship and immigration status.

QuoteDonald Trump: “No state in the country verifies United States citizenship as a condition for voting in federal elections.”
PolitiFact’s ruling: Mostly False,,,,
Both the federal registration form and state versions warn that making false statements is a crime and that noncitizens should not fill out the form.
The consequences for noncitizens registering or voting include deportation, incarceration or fines. Noncitizens risk that a government official will check their voting record during a background check if they apply for naturalization.
"So anyone who’s not a citizen, and lies, is setting themselves up not only for future prosecution, but tanking their ability to become a citizen some day," said Loyola Law School professor Justin Levitt....
Databases and driver’s licenses: How states limit noncitizen voting
Some states have permission to use a federal resource of data, called the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements, or SAVE, for the purposes of verifying that voter registration applicants are citizens. Implemented in 1987 and administered by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, SAVE was originally intended to verify eligibility for government benefits, such as Medicaid. SAVE is not a database of people who are U.S. citizens, but it will show a person’s immigration or citizenship status....
Wendy Underhill, an election expert at the National Conference of State Legislatures, said that in some states, driver’s license records are better for verifying citizenship than they’ve ever been. Some state driver’s license systems are set up to ask a person if they want to register to vote only after they have shown a birth certificate or naturalization paper that proves citizenship. ....
In Georgia, applications for voter registration are compared with data from the state Department of Driver Services and the Social Security Administration...

Vaccines for Immigrants and Refugees
Quote
Refugees and immigrants seeking admission into the U.S. are required to have a medical examination.
During the medical examination, a healthcare professional checks for specific diseases and assesses immunization status. The healthcare professional may run blood tests to find out which vaccines the refugee or immigrant may need. For more information, see Medical Examination of Immigrants and Refugees.

Fact Check: Are COVID-Positive Migrants Allowed to Cross Southern Border Into U.S.?
Quote
Whether migrants are tested for COVID-19 depends on their immigration category. Individuals waiting on immigration proceedings in Mexico as part of the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) are tested by United Nations officials for COVID-19 before entering the United States. Migrants are taken to a staging area, where they must test negative in order to cross the border at a port of entry.
MPP is a Trump-era program that forces migrants who arrive at the Southwest border to return to Mexico to wait during their U.S. immigration proceedings. There are about 25,000 individuals in the MPP program with pending cases before the Executive Office of Immigration Review, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The DHS suspended new enrollment into the program on January 21, 2021....
...According to DHS, "those who test positive will be supported by facilitating organizations to isolate and/or seek treatment in line with the policy of the relevant local health authority in Mexico. Following isolation and screening, such an individual will again be eligible for facilitated arrival at a designated port of entry."
New arrivals at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities also are tested within 12 hours of arrival and are separated from the rest of the population in the facilities to prevent potential transmission.
No, Biden Isn’t Letting Thousands of ‘Illegal Immigrants’ into US Without COVID Testing
QuoteWhat's False
Migrants are not behind the surge in COVID-19 cases across the country. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) says it provides personal protective equipment and masks, and also send migrants to local health facilities for testing, diagnosis, and treatment. ICE statistics and policies governing their interactions with partner agencies also show they conduct testing of migrants at high risk of COVID-19. ICE has also begun vaccinating immigrants held in detention, although the implementation is reportedly inadequate.

U.S. expands COVID-19 vaccinations of migrants in border custody
QuoteThe Biden administration is expanding efforts to vaccinate migrants in U.S. custody against the coronavirus as border authorities prepare for potential policy changes that could increase the number of people they need to process, according to a notification shared with Congress and obtained by CBS News.
U.S. agents will begin to offer COVID-19 vaccines to migrants in Customs and Border Protection (CBP) custody who are processed under regular immigration procedures and can't show proof of vaccination, the March 25 notification states.
The vaccination efforts are set to start at 11 locations along the southern border, before expanding to 16 additional sites by April 8, according to the congressional notification, which says officials hope to distribute 2,700 vaccines per day during the first phase. After expanding to phase 2, slated to begin on April 18, officials expect to be able to vaccinate up to 6,000 migrants daily by late May.

I'm talking future voters hence the call for amnesty. blue collar voters are leaving democrats in droves. Non-citizens can certainly vote in local elections in some blue cities. The asylum seekers are not going before an immigration judge the day get here so your 1% claim is typical nonsense.

hater, racist, christofascist, homophobe, etc = anyone who wins an argument with a liberal. And no they are not required to receive services. Look at the laws on the books Immigration Act of 1882, and the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act signed in 1996.

"Future voters" ... hahaha
It must be that you have decided that all immigrants and refugees will vote for the political party that doesn't demonize them as a group, or the political party that doesn't campaign by calling them a criminal or a taker. Of course, I'm visiting in the home of the adult child of political refugees and I have some first hand experience. Those folks aren't politically "liberal" and neither are the middle eastern immigrants that are related to me by marriage. All of them, however, are concerned about the nature of current republican politics... which seem more authoritarian and corrupt rather than conservative to them. Interestingly, I get to interact regularly with a political refugee from the USSR and his wife. They are interesting to talk to about world politics.
I am enamored with your claim of "typical nonsense"... while you share right wing rhetoric like it's air.

I was responding to you saying " I might be wrong but I believe somewhere about 99% of the asylum seekers are denied." Admittedly I was tired after a grueling 12 hour shift and misunderstood perhaps.
I can't tell you how to think or attempt to change your mind, but only say how I feel. If you believe in Replacement Theory, that border policy is only about getting future democrats in, that's your prerogative.
Calls for amnesty for undocumented workers have been around since the 80's and any proposed bills don't get far. For me and other people it's more about the decency of allowing hard working people that have been here for years sometimes contributing to society, not getting into trouble, not getting free stuff, and some even paying taxes, a path to citizenship not about them voting.
That the Republican Party is becoming a party of blue collar workers is true. Hispanic blue collar workers are included in this process as well. You would think that the Republican Party would try to appeal to them as well. Imagine a party that appeals to blue collar workers being perceived as more friendly to immigrants.
