What do you think about with current News and Opinions?

Something to understand what nurses think about re the Current News and their opinions!

That in my mind is obviously had some sarcasm too it. My bad.  Still how often do Tucker Carlson, et al and Fox News talk about "mainstream media" in a negative fashion as if the most watched Cable News Network isn't "mainstream"

Fox actually gives coverage to a lot of stories but not a lot on Biden per se unless they are reporting about his low approval ratings.

Today CNN talks about the war in Ukraine, the murder in New York, Amazon raising prices, but not much on Biden but that he's "torn to pieces" at a missile strike of Russians on civilians.  Fox is talking about the UN's statement that the Russian war in Ukraine will call global prices to rise, Hunter Biden, a white man killing his wife in front of his child, trans athletes, DesSantis and immigration, and abortion.  They hit all the hot topics on their agenda.  Their hosts and opinion writers are another thing.  They talk about Biden all day.

Both covered  him in Iowa this week but there isn't much to say.  Fox framed it around him staging a re-election.

Biden isn't much in the news today, nor is Trump.  CNN has widely covered Biden's struggles.  They just don't use words like "feeble".

https://edition.cnn.com/2022/04/13/politics/biden-inflation-gas-prices-iowa/index.html

They also cover Biden butting heads with Democrats over immigration.

https://www.cnn.com/2022/04/12/politics/title-42-democratic-strategy/index.html

I agree that if the current course doesn't get any better Biden will be a one-term President and a Republican will be President, and maybe with both houses.   I just hope it isn't Trump or someone that follows the Trump playbook like DeSantis and seeks his approval.  We can do better.

With Trump holding rallies, campaigning for other Republicans that follow his playbook,  and an investigation going on about January 6th, doubtful he's going to exit our conscious anytime soon and I don't think it's "Trump Derangement Syndrome" to talk about it.

I don't think it should be a default deflection when talking about something unpleasant about Biden.

I presumed you were talking about the the person that posted about Trump above you and perhaps another poster that continues to post about him.  I'm wasn't talking about you.

I will say I do appreciate you're persistent posts and calling us out.  I remember during the Tea Party years there as a poster named Timothy and some of us would go back and for multiple times a day about socialism , stimulus packages and Obamacare, and that eventually left.  I miss him.  Several people that posted multiple times a during the  2016 election dipped when Trump won and showed himself.  There were some times when conservatives here were many in number.  Helps to keep things in focus and blanked.  Same with a lot of us liberals.  Very few of us are still here that were here during the Bush years and Obama years.

There was just a "study" done where people who watched FOX news exclusively were offered money to watch CNN. I don't know how scientific the format was but the results were interesting, even if only anecdotal.

https://amp.theguardian.com/media/2022/apr/11/fox-news-viewers-watch-cnn-study

There's a link to the paper in the article. It would be more interesting had they conducted this after millions of Americans watched Trump supporters attack the capitol and threaten the lives of the VP and SOTH in order to elevate Trump into an illegitimate presidency. Maybe they will repeat the social experiment and see if they get similar results.

Don't you think that Trump flowed easily from the hypocrisy of the Tea Party just like that flowed easily from the hypocrisy of Gingrich? I do.  I think there is a genuine and demonstrable decline to be recognized in the ethics, morals and political intentions of each successive wave of republican politics from Gingrich to present.

Russian warship badly damaged; Mariupol faces key battles in war’s 50th day

The Pentagon said there was at least one major explosion that "caused extensive damage to the ship,” but said the ship “remains afloat.” A spokesperson could not confirm or rule out Ukraine’s claims that it struck the ship with Neptune anti-ship cruise missile, and that bad weather and “a powerful explosion of ammunition” then caused the ship to start sinking. Russia acknowledged significant damage to the ship but said the fire was extinguished, and the crew evacuated.
Fighting continues in Mariupol, Ukraine said, denying Moscow’s claims that Russian forces have taken full control of the port city that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has described as pivotal for the outcome of the conflict.

Meanwhile, Russia warned Finland and Sweden that if they join NATO, Moscow will reinforce the Baltic Sea region, including by deploying nuclear weapons. Fifty days into its invasion, Russia is digging in for a drawn-out conflict, with its state media intensifying genocidal rhetoric against Ukraine in what some observers say could be an attempt to justify more bloodshed.

Ky. Republicans override veto, impose sweeping abortion restrictions

The new law, one of the most restrictive in the nation, imposes limits on medication abortion, requires the cremation or burial of fetal remains and bans abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy. An exception is allowed if the woman’s life is in danger, but there is no exception for rape or incest.
The 15-week ban is modeled after the Mississippi law currently before the Supreme Court, in a case that could overturn or roll back Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 ruling that has guaranteed the right to abortion nationwide. Last December, the majority conservative Supreme Court signaled it was likely to restrict abortion access.

Meanwhile, Kentucky has the 13th highest infant mortality rate, and is a top 10 in childhood poverty rates with the third highest rate of poverty among families.  It all makes sense.

White House, truckers blast Texas as inspections snarl Mexico traffic

Huge, multi-mile traffic jams at numerous U.S. border crossings in Mexico worsened Wednesday as Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) largely kept in place his new restrictions that require secondary inspections of commercial trucks and other vehicles.
The new policy, announced last week, has led some truckers to remain snarled in traffic for more than 30 hours, prompting desperate pleas from fruit and vegetable importers, the auto industry and other executives who said their products are being caught up in a political standoff.
In an afternoon news conference, Abbott said he would relax inspections only on trucks entering Texas from Nuevo León, Mexico, because that region’s governor had agreed to tighter security measures. But he was keeping the restrictions up in other entry points until other governors would follow suit.
“Clogged bridges can end only through the type of collaboration that we are demonstrating today between Texas and Nuevo León,” Abbott said.
Businesses on both sides of the border were not mollified by the governor’s Wednesday announcement, and they said the economic consequences were piling up.
“Produce that was destined to United States consumers in some cases will have to be destroyed because of the perishability of our products,” said Robert Guenther, International Fresh Produce Association’s chief policy officer. “This will result in millions of lost economic production not only in Mexico but to the state of Texas and potentially other border states that are now experiencing similar delays.”

This seems unwise. What do you think.

Video shows officer fatally shooting Patrick Lyoya in Michigan

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2022/04/14/patrick-lyoya-videos-grand-rapids/

This fellow walked away from police, leaving the car and the passenger.  The police officer pursued him, tackled and tased the fellow before shooting him in the head.

It certainly seemed like the officer escalated this situation unnecessarily.  What do you think?

First busload of migrants from Texas arrives in D.C.

The white charter bus arrived during the morning rush, delivering about two dozen migrants from Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela and Colombia closer to the doorstep of Fox News, NBC News and other major news outlets than to the Capitol Dome. Some were families; others traveled alone. Many were dazed, sleepless and broke.
They were also thankful that Abbott had given them a free ride and trips to McDonald’s, even after being told the governor is calling for them to be expelled from the United States.
“I didn’t know any of that,” said Victor Rodriguez, 27, a barber originally from Venezuela who said he jumped at the chance to take a free bus ride to D.C. with his wife, Ordalis, 26, and their two children, Jeremias, 5, and Luciana, 1. “The truth is, they helped us. They gave us a hand so that we could arrive here and honestly, we are very grateful.”
All made the trip voluntarily, and Abbott said a second bus was on the way.

DHS officials did not comment on Texas’s bus drop-off Wednesday but said the agency is “executing carefully designed plans to manage the processing and transport of noncitizens arriving at the border.”
“Any individual state’s interest in assisting in our plans’ execution should be carefully coordinated with us,” they said.
Monsignor John J. Enzler, president and CEO of Catholic Charities for the Archdiocese of Washington, said their headquarters in Virginia alerted them that migrants might need help so they gathered Spanish-speaking workers and stood outside Union Station to help people buy bus or train tickets for the next leg of their journeys.
He said 30 migrants were on the Texas bus, and 18 already had relatives in the United States and left quickly to join them. He said that he and some of the workers helped other migrants rent a van to New York. Others were heading to Boston, Miami, and Rhode Island. Some visited a shelter to shower, eat and rest.

It's nice of Abbott to use state funds to assist the people presenting to the southern Texas border.

BBC reported this morning that some Russian soldiers were reduced to eating dogs left by fleeing Ukranians.

I hope the governors and congress people who have been complaining about the crisis at the southern border feel safer now.

What exactly are you suggesting when you say "let them eat cake?"

And whom exactly, in your opinion, should "eat cake?"

Did you read the WAPO article in his  post?  The governor of Texas seems to be oblivious to the suffering of the truckers and all of the food spoiling in the heat.  He reminds me of Marie Antoinette during the French Revolution.  Entitled, spoiled and.mean. When she heard that the peasants had no bread, her famous reply was  Let them eat cake." My mistake assuming everyone knew that:(

It was not Marie Antionette, and is a weird reference in this situation.
