What shoes are you getting for clinicals?

I need to buy a pair of white shoes for clinicals and I am torn on whether to go for sneakers or nursing clogs. What did you/are you going to get and do you recommend them or would you pass on them in the future?

I found some really really comfortable dr scholls shoes at big 5 for 30 bucks...good deal and comfy shoes :)

I was lucky and received a paid of Danskos for my birthday from my family last year. I LOVE them. I actually can't wait to wear them at our clinicals again. They made a huge difference in my second semester from my first (when I just wore white tennis shoes). Expensive but I know I will be buying those again when I graduate and work on a floor.

Honestly danskos aren't that expensive considering you can get 8-10 years out of em. I'm a dansko lover myself. Will be gettin a white pair for clinical, and a pair of birki profi's

Check with your program before you buy clogs. Many programs do not allow clogs of any style (closed back or not).

That being said, I have two pairs I alternate between. I have my Nike Shox which I love. I also bought a pair of Dansko's 5 years ago, they still look brand new..well worth the money I spent.

The thing with shoes/sneakers is what one person loves another might find hurts their feet or their backs ache after wearing them. Personally I cannot wear New Balance. They make my feet ache. My toes and the top of my foot feel like they are being constricted. Whereas my best nursing school friend swears by them and despises Nike. I'd suggest if you go with a sneaker/running shoe go with the brand/style you would normally wear.

Exactly. I cannot wear any kind of athletic type shoes and expect to be comfortable. For me, Danskos are like standing on concrete barefoot. I hate them. I like Crocs and while many programs don't allow clogs, I bought the Crocs in the mary jane style. They have the Crocs Croslite bottom but a leather upper. They are called Crocs Saffron and there is a newer style called Juniper.

I did some reading on AN before buying a second pair for school after my first level. I ended up buying New Balance 440 Walking sneakers and replacing the insoles with Dr. Scholl sport gel insoles (the ones with very rigid arch but gel heel and ball-of-foot). together they made a HUGE difference for my feet. could do 12 hour clinicals in them even after I had used them for 7 months in my other clinical rotations.

my school rules were leather only, must be close toed (no mesh in the sneaker), and no clogs, even if there is a strap. the 'white' they were more lenient. they didn't really care about colored piping or such.

Nursemates. Yep, they are expensive. I initially wanted to get ones by Cherokee but they were sold out at my uniform store. My nursemates are very comfortable, though. They are plain and boring as day but they look clean and professional. I was told my shoes had to be white and leather all-around the shoe. No clogs, no slingbacks, no cloth. Had to be all leather and white as possible but a little blue heart or stripe was ok. I bought some support hose with them too.

I worried about that too before starting clinicals. I crossed my fingers when I bought a pair of white Sketcher Sports which were on sale & they have been great; still wearing them 3 years later! I have never had any problem with my feet hurting. I tried to wear my regular Nike's one night after starting working but I hurt soooo bad by the end of the shift, I've never tried that again! Just bought a pair of Sketcher D'Lites in tan to change up with the white ones. They feel a little different than the Sports, but don't cause my feet any problems either.

I bit the bullet and got a pair of Dansko's.. My school doesn't allow sneakers or crocs and I didn't want to buy some cheap quality shoe that is uncomfortable, so I got a pair of Dansko's and they seem super comfortable.

I got a pair of Danskos because I am a distance runner and have foot pain already, and my podiatrist said these will save your feet and are well worth the money since you will be on your feet ALL day. Good shoes are well worth the price for saving your feet/back. If you decide to go with Danskos, make sure to go into a store to be fitted for them-they are hand sewn so the sizing may vary a little and you don't want to spend a lot of money on the wrong size shoes! Also, the store recommended wearing them around the house for about 4 hours at a time to get used to them and to give the shoe time to mold to your foot.
