I'm currently in an MSN program and not in a DNP program, but it seems like a common complaint on these threads here are about how our classes are bunch of fluff. I really haven't found any classes to be "fluffy" so to speak in that I thought all of them were in some ways relevant to learning how to be a good NP. However, I was wonder if you guys can clarify what exactly do you mean your classes are fluff? I can't imagine them legally teaching something totally left field and unrelevant like particle physics or something in class that would waste your time.....
I'm betting I can guess what your BS stands for and prolly not Bachelor of Science, lol but whats DAAL? Are you a spicy bean stew? :)
No I have a real BS. In interdisciplinary studies even. It's the quintessence of BS. I was a naïve 21 year old when I got it. I looked 17. At least it was scholarship funded and no out of pocket costs.
The DAAL, however, is Dumb *** At Large. It seems to fit lately.
OP:
The late Supreme Court justice Potter Stewart was asked one time what his definition of Mediaography was.
He thought a while and responded something to the effect that he was not sure but he knew it when he saw it.
So by way of using justice Stewart's responce as a template, I would say that when you take a course in school that seems mostly irrelevant to learning to take care of the complex needs of people, and you are paying good money to do so the "fluff" word gets defined in no uncertain terms.

I'll buy you your next steak dinner.
OP- people say classes are fluff because they are not related to hard science, diagnoses, or prescribing. I think there are politics and requirements for schools to be accredited. Maybe ask your professors. I don't know how it gets decided what is included in a curriculum. i never felt inadequately prepared and i have learned the most from researching and consulting on difficult patients.
we have conceived the fluff scale: add one point to each category if the answer is yes.
0-1 points- not fluff
2-3 points- fluff
4-6 points- serta
7+ fluffier than your neighbors shaggy dog
One point for each of the following:
Paper writing heavy
has the word management/leadership in the title
research in the title
theory in the title
doesn't have written tests
mentions florence nightingale more than once per credit hour
has the phrase "______ methods"
knowledge development in the title
Calculate your fluff score

19 points for me, 11 paper writing together.
I knew I should've gotten that MA in history. It would've only been 12 points so alas nursing is fluffier than liberal arts.
your missing out on all of that philosanurse stuff that makes you think things through deeply on a spiritual level and getting in touch with your inner nightingale. Ive heard that people can use telepathy and make wipes move with their mind so they can clean 2 dirty rear ends at once. Apparently they also add 10 feet to your IV starting range, and let you feel peoples "bad blood" without having to order lab tests. I mean who orders labs anyway when you can simply conceptualize the patient's dilantin levels through cognitive....ok I'm done.
Don't forget the Caring Field that is established when the nurse's aura connects with the patient's -- sorry, client's -- aura.
I'm not even kidding. My nursing theory text said so.

Jules, you hit the nail on the head here. Simply advertising nurse is not enough. We must show off our alphabet soup to really be considered successful in this profession.
