What do ward and hospital nurses wear in teh UK?
Is it still this:
Scrubs? or is it dependent on the trust you work for?
How on earth do patients tell who is who? Now I understand what they were talking about on another thread that's been running on the forum about the "today Show".
Is this true for wards or is it just ICU/ER etc?
On the plus side can you get Lord of the Ring scrubs? Hehehe! I'd quite fancy turning up to work with Legolas & Aragorn blazened across my chest!:rotfl:

Most hospitals have a system where nurses wear one color of scrubs, patient care assistants/aides wear another and so on. Plus most have the nurses wear an additional larger badge under their regular ID with "RN" blazened in big red letters. It doesn't matter though. The patients call every female employee "nurse" and every male employee "doctor" regardless of what their actual role is. What I find confusing is all the different levels of nurses in the UK. I don't get the "bands" and then it gets even more difficult with "sisters", "leads", "junior leads", etc. Here we have a supervisor, a charge nurse (which can be any unfortunate soul snagged for that job on that day) and every one else. I guess you can tell the more experienced nurses by their haggard appearance from years of abuse
Wales is moving over to one standard uniform for all of the nurses who work there. I believe it is starting in North Wales and will work it's way South
Ward sisters / Charge nurses in navy, staff nurses in pale blue, specialist nurses in royal blue and health care support workers in green
Bleech don't like them

also as madwife says they werte issued to us at no cost......we had 7 tops and 7 pairs of trousers.
we have 8 nurses on the floor tonight and the scrubs range from,,,
1 scooby doo top
1 invincibles top
1 lemon cartoon top
1 plain black and wine pants
1 all black scrubs
1 pale green scrubs
1 wine scrubs
1 navy blue top and denim pants
so as you can see its very varied, not a bit like the uk, I never liked the uniform back home but sometimes I think that the uk nurses look more proffesional.
