What do ward and hospital nurses wear in teh UK?
Is it still this:

The first one - although mostly without the smile these days
All of them really. It depends on what you do and, as you stated, what Trust you work for. Some Trusts won't allow nurses to wear scrubs in ITU; others do. Our Trust has A&E staff and Midwives in co-ordinated scrubs, and ITU staff in uniform. As you probably know, some areas of nursing don't wear uniform at all. As for colours of uniforms and colours of epaulettes......

At our Hospital apart from senior sister we all wear gray coloure uniform, option of either dresses or trouser suit. But we have different colours of epaulettes. Junior sister have neavy blue epaulettes, staff nurse light blue, health care supprt worker light purple, assitant practitoner dark purple, nursing auxalliary with gray epaulettes. Senior sister have have navy blue uniform again either dresses or trouser suit. Lead nurses also wear navy but has red piping on the adge of collor, junior lead nurses have white piping on the adge of collor.
Thanks for the replies.

We wear navy blue trousers and black shoes. Our shirts are white tunics with royal blue epaulets. The healthcare assistants wear purple epaulets, the sisters wear navy blue.

Hi
It does depend on the trust. We have, sisters in navy blue, staff nurse in royal blue & healthcare assisstants in baby blue. Dress or tunic, with tunic all wear navy trousers & if you wear a dress you must wear stockings or tights & black shoes with all
Is it the same at the private hospitals?

Yes the same kind of uniform but the colour may differ. The difference in the UK is that you have to conform to a uniform policies, so you all look the same. I found it diffucult when I first came to US as I could just about wear any kind of scrubs, with any pattern, plus I had to pay for my unifrom. In the UK you dont have to pay for your uniform it is given to you as part of your job. A perk lol
A perk lol
And, I believe, the only 'perk' in the NHS?!
Says it all really!

I wear a blue/white stripped dress and navy belt. I personally don't like tunic and trousers. I find them very uncomfortable and really hot in the summer. Each to our own eh?

we all wore the same white tops and navy trousers, and although seemed warm in the summer were sometimes cooler than dresses with tights.......definitely not cool.
some trusts have white desses which need petticoats worn under them or else your underwear was on display for everyone to see.
