What was the MOST ridiculous thing a patient came to the ER for?

And did you have to treat them?

I am just curious. Your stories always seem to either crack me up or shake my head in amazement.

A pt came in complaining of pain during sex. She wanted the problem fixed right now on a Sunday night cause she was leaving for vacation the next morning and had big plans for her vacation! My suggestion was quit having sex if it hurts so badly!!

I wasnt a nurse at the time but a ER Registrar.....a man came in and held up his finger with one of those corn cob holders clean right through his finger. Apparently the corn slipped when he was trying to poke it through with one of these things. I immediately looked at it...and said "OH MY GOD" and he said, Never mind OH MY GOD, get me a doctor!!!!!!!! Never forgot that.

Can relate to pains that you dont know what the heck there are. I live alone too, and I am an RN, it doesnt matter but you certainly did the right thing and do not feel guilty about anything you did. You were right in going to the ER for treatment.....scarey crap,......I know.

I did my preceptorship in an ED and was amazed at some of the cases I we saw. Mainly clinic type complaints, including pregnancy tests, all of which are more costly in the ED. I don't get it. I guess if you don't have to foot the bill, it doesn't matter where you're seen.

I had a patient in the hospital whose admitting diagnosis was "impending death" hummmmm couldn't every patient have that potential diagnosis. BTW...pt survived and went homw to live for quite some time!
