What mantra is getting you through nursing school?

Published

Another thread has prompted me to ask: what mantra/saying/advice has gotten you through nursing school? What do you mutter every day as you head out to all the responsibility that is waiting for you?

Here are mine:

'Never let anyone or anything get in the way of your goal.'

When you think you can't do something, you WON'T. When you think you can, you WILL.

I have the above two sayings on my fridge, so I can look at them every time I open that door.....which is a lot, sadly, LOL.

Finally:

"One more day down and on my way to my goal."

These three sentences have given me strength the whole time and have made a difference for me. What helps you?

I have been a very independent person since I was a child, and because of this my mother always says this to me when I'm doing something difficult or stressful....

"Baby steps, baby steps, baby steps..."

I intend to remind myself of this daily when I make it into nursing school!

You reminded me of the other mantra that I used to get through NS, which is so second-nature now that I don't even need to say it anymore--I just do it:

"Yard by yard, life is hard. Inch by inch, life's a cinch."

Basically, I take things an inch at a time instead of trying to master it all at once.

Where am I going, and why am I in this basket? just kidding, seriously, "I have come this far and I'm going to finish if it kills me"

Funny how many of us are quoting a fish! I hear her chirpy little song in my head a lot.

Lately, mine has been, "Sure, I could put off/skip that reading, but what will make me happier on test day?" And since I hate getting any answer wrong, I drag out that darned book and get a crackin'.

"Who wants to study?" Not me!!! "Do you HAVE to study" No!!! "What happens if you dont study and keep pressing on" FAILURE!!! "So what are we gonna do?" KEep going!!!

Definately, I can do ALL things through who strenthens me:)

These have helped me through pre-nursing.

I have two:

"May of 2010 is gonna come either way, the difference is I will be an RN when it gets here."

"Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're probably right."

Where am I going, and why am I in this basket? just kidding, seriously, "I have come this far and I'm going to finish if it kills me"

Lmao! That is hilarious!!!

I take my mantra from Yoda. I even have a keychain that says it:

DO OR DO NOT. THERE IS NO TRY.

I bought it while I was in Disney World with my kids. At the time I was debating if I could start nursing school and get thru it.

It keeps me going.

That is the truth! We are all doing it every day too!

I am in my second semester of ns and we found out a couple weeks ago that my husband was accepted into law school! It will be a little tougher with us both working ft and attending school ft but we will make it. This is what we have always wanted and now our dreams are transforming into reality, pretty cool!

I keep telling myself that millions of nurses have made it through before me and if they can do it, I can do it too.

I needed that after the week I've had thanks so much!
