What mantra is getting you through nursing school?

Published

Another thread has prompted me to ask: what mantra/saying/advice has gotten you through nursing school? What do you mutter every day as you head out to all the responsibility that is waiting for you?

Here are mine:

'Never let anyone or anything get in the way of your goal.'

When you think you can't do something, you WON'T. When you think you can, you WILL.

I have the above two sayings on my fridge, so I can look at them every time I open that door.....which is a lot, sadly, LOL.

Finally:

"One more day down and on my way to my goal."

These three sentences have given me strength the whole time and have made a difference for me. What helps you?

OK this is kind of rude- but I'm being honest- Every once in awhile I will meet a nurse- and I will think to myself, damn if SHE  can do it then so can I.

That sums up my mantra too.

I take my mantra from Yoda. I even have a keychain that says it:

DO OR DO NOT. THERE IS NO TRY.

I bought it while I was in Disney World with my kids. At the time I was debating if I could start nursing school and get thru it.

It keeps me going.

ONE day at a time, ONE assignment at a time, ONE drug at a time. etc.. haha

Works for me.

PS I LOVE the sky is pink one above.. so so true, no matter what the book says, go with what the instructor says... Pink sky, NOT blue sky per page 1099 of Phipps, etc... LOL

one of my instructors has this on her website :

"Put all excuses aside and remember this: YOU are capable."

That and a picture of my 4 kids, my dream car and a nurse friends paycheck stub..have copies of all of those and taped them up everywhere in my house and in my binders...

My particular mantra is "It's all worth it" because in the end, it is. :nurse:

"What doesn't kill us makes us stronger"...

and counting down how many more weeks we have left in each rotation!

The time is going to pass no matter what you do with it.

Just keep swimming!

If it worked for Nemo, It can work for me. LOL

Hopefully I can stay a float until next May. :)

It's something a drill instructor told us in Navy bootcamp, and it is now my mantra:

"You can do this. I did this, and I figured I wasn't any dumber'n anybody else."

Believe that you can and you are half way there.

It used to be "The Power behind me is greater than the obstacle in front of me." Now it is just " I have too many loans to turn back now."

I actually like nursing school, accept for test time, I get super nervous. When I get discouraged I remember how much I want to be a midwife, how so many things in my life point to me being a nurse, that I AM a nerd and have anatomy posters all over my computer room wall, that my dad got teary eyed staring at my AA degree before I got into the BSN program I am in (wait unil I get my BSN!), that my neighbor even tells me how proud she is of me, because I am in nursing school to do something that I wanted to do since I was a little girl...I do not have any sayings or mantras per se; but I have plenty of things that drive me.

yummy yummy pepto bismal...tastes good around midterms and finals; LOL
