In New York City, with 21 years exp, currently at $45 per hour. Homes go for anywhere from 1/2 million on up, and that's for the size 3 shoebox. That's why I rent.
If I lived in some other financially reasonable state, I would be able to support two wives AND a mistress. In NYC, I'm barely keeping my kids fed. If it wasn't for overtime, she would have divorced me years ago... LOL

In Virginia Beach LPN's make around $15 - $19 an hour and RNs make $19 - $26 and hour.
It cost $250-$300 thousand to buy a nice home here, nice meaning 3 to 4 bedroom, NOTHING fancy. If you want a really nice newer home (less than than 10 years old) your looking at $400,000 and Uuupppppp!!
And don't even get me started on the how much it cost to rent a 1 bedroon apt. Grrrr!
It's tough in California, very tough.
Luckily though, my salary as a nurse will only help us. We just purchased a home last October, average price in the area is around 500, our home was in the upper 400 range.
So we are tight right now, but once im working we should be fine. In California you almost always need 2 salaries.
I'm an LVN in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex who earns $18.50 hourly with no experience, as I just became licensed in January.
I bought my brand new 1,860 square foot house for $104,000 in Fort Worth nearly 8 months ago. My house in central California is worth $300,000; however, the California LVN salaries are slightly lower.

Where I live RN's make between $23-34/hr, depending on expereince title ect. Here you can not buy a modest home (and even fixer-uppers)for under $300,000.....every one talks about how well nursing pays, but with the cost of here is terrible. What do you make an hour and what does an "average" home go for in your area.
