What you make as a nurse Vs. Cost of living

Nurses General Nursing

Where I live RN's make between $23-34/hr, depending on expereince title ect. Here you can not buy a modest home (and even fixer-uppers)for under $300,000.....every one talks about how well nursing pays, but with the cost of here is terrible. What do you make an hour and what does an "average" home go for in your area.

Specializes in Family Practice Clinic.

Arkansas, RN with ACLS and 2 1/2 years exp. $20, house $150,000 ( very nice 3BR 2 Bath for this town)

Specializes in sub acute, ALF. Currently in RN school.
The waitresses at local beach joints average 30.00 and better per hr. Whats wrong with this picture???

I agree! Or better yet, WHY do pro athletes make as much as they do? Alex Rodriguez of the NY Yankees makes $25 million a yr to hit a damn baseball. Please dont get me wrong...I am actually a BIG Yankees/sports fan, but COME ON....

I honestly think that is why there is a nursing shortage...the pay scale.

I am an LPN (3 yrs) in NJ, and NJ is just expensive. My first nursing job I worked in sub-acute and made $23.75/hr. Went to an assisted living and they agreed to pay me the same, even though they were starting out at $20/hr. Transferred to southern jersey/shore area...pay cut to $20/hr.

Living expenses are rediculous. Houses like $500,000 - $600,000 average.
