Genetic Testing B/4 Taking Coumadin?
As someone who had to take coumadin for 6 months for a pe after a hip replacement, I would gladly have taken the test. I have bilateral hip dysplasia so first hip replaced in 05. DId everything to a T. Arixtra injections teds to my rear on both legs for 6 wks, pt, scds. Dvt developed in left leg, never knew it, no symptons what so ever and it apparently revascularized. Second hip replaced this year. Only sympton tachycardia....PE!!! Coumadin for 6 months, blood work weekly, and daily changes in coumadin dosage. Frustrating beyond belief. My system apparently metabolizes coumadin faster. Imagine coumadin of 7.5mg and higher in a 37 yr old who isn't menopausal. I cut everything out in my diet from green tea, cinnamon, soy, the likely greens, etc, etc, and still every week after blood work, we would figure out "this weeks plan". Hopefully my coagulopathy labs will come back normal, and the dvt will be explained as a "fluke", or I am on coumadin for life. If this happens genetic testing here I come!!!

Need advice on prerequisites class
Personally I think you would be alright. There was a ten year gap between leaving college the first time around and then deciding to go into nursing for me and I did alright with taking the A&p I and II and micro. Don't recall any "chemistry" on the Nclex. You may want to touch base with the periodical table for abbreviations. ..........Hope this helps.................

daily nursing care sheets.. help!
For the medications if you receive a computer print out you can go through and highlight in different colors the times. ie yellow for 0730 and 0900. Pink for 1130, 1300. Green for 1700, 1800 and 1900. Also we receive a computer prontout that we call a rounds report...has the pt info, allergies, patient care portion, labs..etc. In report I will go down the side and write report. Then on a blank opiece of paper I will write down various bits..ie..... "Smith" WT____ ......................#22 LFA 7/7 ...........................................................bs 0730____ ...................................Dopamine 1mcg:4.2ml/hr ................................................1130____ EKG____........................................................................................................ 1630____ 2d Echo ____ Wound Care____ Incentive Spirometer ____ Cough/Deep Breathing____ BM____ FC_____ ...Design it to your patients needs....can also use to write when MD's were in, when pt left floor for teat etc. I then place this in to a three ring binder with dividers with pockets..so every person has the above sheet firts, then rounds, then meds. I also copy orders on the copy machine and place them in the pockets to help keep track of what is giong on as well. hope this helps a little

chronic pain patients: pain in the behind to care for
It is both amazing and saddening to me to read through some of the above posts on chronic pain. I hope that those who do not experience chronic pain never will, and for those that do I completely understand. Please remember a few "pointers". Not every person is "fibbing" when they state their pain is a "10" yet they are smiling, laughing, sleeping etc. Not every person who states they are in pain is a "drug seeker". Not every person that is in pain, especially chronic pain is intentionally rude and nasty. Please understand that living in chronic pain can unfortunately cause a change in the persons "attitude" if you will. Being in chronic pain myself that last bit was quite a surprise to even me. A family memeber pointed out what a different person I now am. Unbeknownst to me who thought I was doing great not snapping and being "nasty" to others. I had/have lived with chronic pain since I can remember. I am now thirty five. Probably about the age of seven is when I first brought it to my parents attention, who took me to the MD to be told it was "growing pains". Well I "learned" to live with being in pain. Every day, all day. Finally at the age of 13 I was dx with bilateral hip dysplasia. To late at that point to fix. I didn't let the pain, nor what the MD told me stop me in anyway. I played basketball and ran track in school. I defied the docs by having my son (was told I was never having children...still amazed that I did upon seeing my xrays, not only are the acetabulum and femur heads deformed but also my entire pelvic structure.) and became an RN who works on a tele step down unit. All while having pain. Thanks to one total hip, I now have pain on only one side.Point is that people can and do amazing "things" while being in chronic pain. So please next time, and yes I know sometimes we are not "easy" to deal with, but please try to understand what we are going through. I am sorry that the OP had to deal with the individual they did.
