  1. It's possible. I work Monday Tuesday an Wednesday 12 hour shifts 6p-6a for a total of 36 hours then I work thurs- sunday 8 hour shifts from 3-11. For a total of 32 hours making my 7 day total 68 hours. I am only doing this for 9 months, however, to pay some bills off and build up our savings. I have family time with wife and kids mon - we'd from 1p-5p and thur-sun from 8a-2p. Wife works mon-wed 6p-6a so she does all the bills and grocery shopping on thurs and friday
  2. I have two different Jobs The first is at a LTC Facility I make $17.68 plus $0.50 for night shift diff. I have been here for 5.5 years but havent had a raise in 3 years likely due to the economy. I work Three 12 hour shift Mon-Tues-Wed. The second job I am starting in 2 weeks at another LTC facility I will be starting there at $17.50 base pay plus $1.25 evening shift diff on weekdays and additional $3.25 on weekends. For a total of $18.75 on weekdays and $22 on weekends
  3. My wife and I are both LPN's and she make more than me. She has been an LPN 2 years longer than me.. Her base without O/T is $37k and mine is $33k.... With all the O/T I make about what she does... I wish she was an RN or that I was.. I personally want to go to med schoo.. But we have a small child and the $$ would be too much..
  4. They cut out overtime for about a week at our facility... D/T low census.. By the next week they were calling me and my wife wanting us both to pull overtime... Buisness is still booming, they just hired 4 or 5 new CNA's and about 3 new LPN's
  5. East TN here too... Start out at $16 for days and $16.50 for nights, $17 weekend days and $17.50 weekend nights at our SNF
  6. I watched a "House" Re-run last night.. There were 3-4 docs standing around and the pt. had an incontinent episode.. House says " what is that smell, pulls up the sheet and says WOAH.. Let me find a nurse..." I thought that was kinda funny... Had to watch it I guess *EDIT* In this same episode he put down a Medic.. They brought in another pt. on a gurney... House stopped him in the middle of the hall and started looking at him. The medic said Dr. you need to get him in. he has lost 3 units of blood.. House said something like "if you wanted to play Dr. you should have tried harder in school" I like House, Scrubs, and Greys Anatomy.. But man House can really be hard on people.
  7. That is most likely d/t your "newness" I was the same way after I became licensed.. Now im an LPN with 28 pt's daily.... That 3 minutes of your time starts adding up after you help say 5 - 6 people, that is 15 - 18 minutes.. Now you have 2 hours to pass your pills.. Your hour before and your hour after.. In my case with 28 pt's if I spend 5 minutes with each person whilel giving their pills im already over by 20 minutes, seeing it will take me 140 minutes for 28 pt's... now add your 15 - 18 for helping 5 - 6 people and you are already 38 minutes out of your time frame.. I have to space my time adequately there are some that you can get in and get out quicker, but when you have 3 or 4 pt's with 2 or 3 different types of eye gtts or inhalers.. Well there you go, more time, 5 minutes in between each... So if you want to add that your going to be an hour out of your time frame.. Better not let state come in and catch that they will have a CVA.... Don't get me wrong I will wipe tails with the best of them AFTER im done with my med pass.. I don't hesitate a bit if they ask me to help them do something.. W/C - bed transfer, or help them on the BSC or BR... I do answer the call lights while the aides are doing rounds.. But now if im charting and my aides aren't doing rounds they get all of the lights etc. Hope this helps you out some... Not trying to sound "Smart" but it is alot different with all the responsiblity..
  8. You ever had the families or PT's that want you to kiss their butt... Makes me think of my favorite new quote... "I didn't become a nurse to kiss your @$$ I became a nurse to save your @$$"
  9. If you have a person who takes there meds crushed PO do you crush them and give them one at a time with a sip of water in between... I DON'T... So tell me the difference why does someone with a G-tube need them seperated.. I know im not a doc... But as some mentioned on here: Text Book = crush one at a time with 15cc H20 inbetween Real World = Crush all at once mix in some med pass and give them all at the same time, followed by a flush of around 120cc... Now if state is in house, CRUSH THEM SUCKERS ONE AT A TIME or they will GET YOU.....
  10. Not sure where you are, but in TN anyone can be a supervisor, BUT can't make clinical decisions..
  11. I just don't get it (drug seekers)..... I had a kidney stone about a year ago, they came into my room and gave me Dilauded.. OMG I stopped breathing for a few seconds.. I told them to stop and not give me anymore.. I only had about 1/2 of the dose. But I thought it was going to kill me honestly.. After that I told them Tylenol should be sufficient.. And I personally WILL NEVER have DILAUDED in my system again.. I would rather be hurting 9/10 instead..
  12. Have to be licensed in TN to pass meds
  13. I saw a new one last night... " Clonodine" I left the girl alone about it though, she is new, only had her license about a month...LOL
  14. That is what my wife thinks. Thank all of you for your opinions, I think I will chill on Nights and let it ride...
