I guess that depends on the individual. I personally love the ER but there are many that may not. Nice thing about nursing is that you can decide what is right for you. If you don't like where you're at you can move on to something different.
I guess I want to know which are the hardest/easiest to staff. I won't let it guide my decision. :)

Again , I think that would more pertain to the particular institution or area of the country as to whether one area was more difficult to staff as opposed to another.

It depends. I've always noticed more opening on med/surg- was it because the med/surg unit on that hospital sucked, or because there were significantly more patients and therefore a higher need for staff?
I've noticed the more specialized the unit, the better staffed they are as well. Higher pay? More interesting? Who knows.
For me, I didn't like med/surg. I didn't like dialysis, esp. PD.

Way to open of a question--the most and least popular job for me may be the exact opposite from you.
Since your asking--the least popular job for me would be a wound nurse---eww/ick/gross/cant pay me enough.
My favorite job is my current job in my tiny 6 bed ICU with a well rounded staff who totally suports each other...

To prove the above point, I love wound care, but I hate admissions. I'd rather take care of 20 people than 5 + 2 admits.
We're all so different. The trick is to know yourself well enough that you don't take a job that plays to your non-negotiable list.
Umm maybe if I rephrase the question?
Where YOU work, what are the easiest and the most difficult nursing jobs to staff? Why do you think that is?

Where I work, NONE of the units are hard to staff because my hospital is good and we all take care of each other. So it really depends on the culture of the hospital/unit you are looking at.

is this like an essay question for school or something--why are you asking just vague questions---once again totally different answere depending who on answeres it---I like admits. I would take them all but I hate doing teles..I would take an extra patient over calibrating teles anyday---
