I've been thinking about that too lately. This is my 3rd year at school nursing and before that I worked for 4 years at a hospital in ICU and Surgery. I was burnt out of the hospital setting so I'm thinking I might try a nursing home or assisted living this summer-very part time. I have a young child at home and cherrish my days off! How was working at a long term care facility for you?
I found there to be plenty of work in LTC last summer(it may be different this summer). I worked through a relief staffing agency. The pay was good, but the hours long. I chose to work 12-16 hr days so I still had some free time. I love geriatrics but it's very difficult to walk into a strange facility and take charge for 30-40 residents. That's why I am exploring other options for this coming summer. Besides, i don't know if my feet and legs can hack it anymore!
Think about going to some conferences over the summer. Many of the state organizations have 2 or 3 day conferences, often in resort areas where you can bring family. Check to see if your state or a neighboring state is having a conference:

Poster abstracts for the national conference are still being accepted.
