What kind of Nurse do you want to be?

Have you decided what your area of specialty is going to be. Once all this hard work and studying is over with?

I am thinking a CRNA what about you?

I am hoping to get into a hospital in the surrounding area after graduation and work there med/surg for a while. But my ultimate goal is teaching. So I'd like to work and earn my degree along the way.

I would like to get in a few good years of home health nursing too.

I was never really sure what I wanted to do LOL but wanted (and still do I think) to go to Nurse Practitioner. But over the past few months or maybe even semesters, can't really pinpoint it - I've come to realize I want to be a NICU nurse...

and I accepted a job as a NICU nurse starting in September!!!! WOOHOOHOOHOOO!!!!

Ultimately I want to do research.

Until then I am most interested in OR, but I don't know if that will count toward bedside experience that is needed to work in research. I shudder to think I'll have to work the dreaded med-surg. If that's the cause, I'll suck it up and do it. I'd rather not go down that road if I can avoid it.

I'd love to work OR, but I imagine I'll need some kind of experience to get in there..so maybe GYN? I'd work pretty much anywhere but LTC..I don't know how you girls could want to work there, it boggles my mind!

ccrn all the way, i love critical care, the adrenalin, keeps you on your toes, plus you get less pt's so you can focus more, and have less of a workload. then i plan on becoming a cns, research sounds appealing to me.

ER nursing is for me. A few weeks ago I was at clinical, and my pt started going downhill. . .the RN was also in the room and helped. . .after we got things under control, I asked her what do you do now. . .it was a cardiac situation. . .she told me all we could do was 02, positioning, call the MD. . .and wait for orders. I kept thinking who knew when the MD would call back, and in the mean time is the pt just suppose to code in order for anything to be done? I really did not like this aspect of floor nursing, especially since I work in an ED and know that down there we can yell "hey doc get in here" and things can get done rather that waiting for that pts doc to call back.

Post-partum nurse all the way! I just graduated and am studying now for the NCLEX. I have my NRP training and am taking a certified lactation counselor training the end of June. I'd also like to do VNA nursing on the side for new mothers and their newborns once they go home from the hospital. I am also starting my MSN this fall, with the hopes of becoming a nursing instructor in a few years. I also want to teach breastfeeding, birthing and care of the newborn classes.

I'm still thinking about all of my options at this point. I'll graduate in May 08 which I'm sure will be here before I know it. I'm thinking about OB, NICU or long-term care. I'm not sure yet though. By the time it's all over with it may be something totally different :). Good luck to everyone!
