PC or Macintosh? Desktop, laptop, PDA?

I'm getting a computer soon - just wondering what everyone liked and preferred as a nursing student.

Thanks!

Don't buy a Compaq. Compaq's only half the sentence, POS is the other half.

:chuckle I so agree with that. Cuz my compaq is a POS. shh but don't tell my computer it might get mad at me. LOL

I used to buy IBMs, but now I build my own computers. Used to have 2 but gave one to my boyfriend, so now only have one. I'd like to build another one soon though.

l've lost count on how many computers l've had,, l only buy brand names now, as generic computers l've had troubles with... One brand name "Packard Bell" l had gave me plenty of stress, l ended up calling it "Packed in Hell"......... My fav pc is the IBM, had 3 IBM'S now and could never fault them.

I had a Packard Bell "years" ago. I would call it Packard in Hell also. Ugh, hated it.

We now have 2 HP's in the house and one Compaq. LUV the HP's, in fact the third one is being delivered today or tomorrow. I could live without Compaq.

As far as the customer service for Dell. I've heard that it takes forever to get them on the line. But, the good part about it is that you RARELY have problems with your Dell that you don't need to call them. When I was looking to purchase a new computer, i was advised that Dell was the best and that's what I've got.

Good to hear all the good things about Dell computers! Anyone got any bad stories of Dell's? How is their customer service, etc? Any features you would recommend we make sure to have for school?

if you have kids i would purchase the accident insurance from them as well. its an investment, i know....but with all the mail in rebates and sales going on right now its worth it!!! i have 4 yrs on my laptop, it has a dvd player so i figured that way my daughter can use it when we're in the car- worry free.......hope that makes sence- alls i am saying is if you go with dell make sure to find out warrinty options......>good luck!!!!! _krissy

ps.i said it once and i will say it again------no macs for school- :nono: unless you are in it for the graphics, they are worthless other wise, and they don't come cheap.

i have had to re-install the software in my imac atleast 4 times in 3 years.........suxxxxxxxxxxx!!!!!

Bought a Compaq and had nothing but trouble, then a girl at school told me she had an e-machine and loved it, so I thought what the heck, I'll pay $498 and check it out. It has been great! I've added a lexmark scanner and copier for like another $85, never had any problems and it does all that I need it to do. Would like to have a Dell one day, since so many people seem to like them, but until I graduate, this one will work.

I dont buy brand name computers unless they are laptops. For desk top I ahve a friend build them...this way if they need to be upgraded, it can be done easily and without haveing to by parts directly from a company.

I have a E machine laptop that i love.

I bought a Dell desktop in January. I wanted a top of the line model, but didn't want to pay over $2000. I searched the inventory of refurbished desktops that they had over a 2 week period. I ended up with a computer that cost $2300 new for only $970. Most of the computers never had any problems; they were just returned items that the buyer didn't want.

I have had this computer for 3 months and have not had a single problem. I still have my first dell that is 7 years old and it works to this day; it's just a little slow. So, I highly recommend Dell to anyone looking to buy a new computer.

As far as customer service, I hate it. Not that the wait time is too long or that they don't know what they are doing, but that Dell has decided to offshore the tech support to India. Seeing jobs moved to other countries really ticks me off :angryfire . At least as a nurse, my job can not be sent offshore.

Thanks Andrew and Jemommy for the input on Dells. I think this is what we are looking towards if we can drum up the cash before fall. I gotta get me a PDA too.

About Dell support. I was tiried of waiting all that time just to get someone who didnot understand me.So I emailed them that I needed help from an AMERICAN. I have nothing against other nationalities but if I can't understand them they can't help me.

The next day I got an email to be by the phone @11am. Dell called and I got the service I needed form an American. Just have to tell them what you need I guess. Love my Dell.
