What are the item(s) you need most for nursing school?

Published

I have been going through all these posts to find what items are the best things to have for nursing school. The posts are all scattered so I thought I would start a post that will contain all the info for the new incoming students.

I would like to know what I should spend my money on when it comes to study guides, NCLEX review books, NET review books, best nursing shoes (without a logo), stethescope, misc nursing items you have to have, etc. Any new students/senior students/graduate nurses have any info they can share? What were the items you couldn't live without???

Thanks for your input!

I really appreciate everyone's advice, thank you!

This may have already been mentioned, but a loving husband and family. Especially ones that don't mind all the dust bunnies around that you pass off as your school science projects.

That is sooooo true! ....Or one like mine that doesn't mind, errr at least puts up with....having to cook dinner after getting home from work, while knowing he is still expected to mow the grass and take out the trash. :lol2:

Poor baby....he must be exhausted. He's already sleeping. :D

Hi, welcome, and congrats to you!

I love my HP IPAQ, but there are so many different brands/types out there to choose from.

Do a search for PDA, as I believe there are several threads/forums for PDA info on AllNurses! :)

Good luck!

First off I swear by the Bic Atlantis black pen... its lasts a long time, smooth, doesnt smudge. Next , def. highlighters are a MUST and believe it or not I have gone through a lot of them to find a perfect pack (3) at the dollar store and they work way better than the expensive ones. Im highly meticulous about all these things!!! Next a lab coat to put all your things in, small sticky note pad... they majorly come in handy whether in class, at work or at clinicals, calculator and a drug reference book... and finaly a nice binder that has seperate folders to keep all your classes separate..... and your cell phone to alert you when your next exam is coming up!!!

i cannot believe that no one has mentioned chapstick as an essential.

if i am ever finally accepted into a nursing program then i will have to remember all of the helpful suggestions. thanks everyone for sharing.:yelclap:

Debinding those thick books from Kinkos? wow thats the best idea ive come thru today. Everyweek I have to travel for 3 hours from my house to my school with a 30/lb back pack. I guess i'll be doing that soon. Thanks for the ideas guys! keep them coming!!!;)

And oh yeah let me put in some suggestions.

1)3 ring binders, get the thick ones to organize your notes and hand outs.

2)Food! like cereal bars and other light snacks so when you're getting light headed youll be able to eat.

3)A good amount of pens, especially black ones. Try Pentel RSVPs they glide thru the papers with gentle pressure and leaves a nice dark fine ink and does not smudge.

4)Water!

5) Comfortable shoes, get those Nike shox, theyre really comfy.

6)Money,! always bring money. You'll be spending alot of money for nursing school. You'll be throwing money on books, notebooks, cds, tuition, equipments, food, travel. So bring credit cards, cash, coins checks or any other form of money. hehe.

7) bring your sense of humor!

lol thats funny

I will be starting nursing school this fall at LaSalle University in Philadelphia, Pa. Any suggestions on what items you need the most will surley be very helpful. Thanks in advance for the input.

I invested in a great littman stethoscope and it has made my life a lot easier. Also a pair of those nurse mate stockings, I have ones called "feels terrific" or something like that. They really save your feet and ankles at the end of a long day on your feet! www.uniformcity.com has them at a good price.
