What are the item(s) you need most for nursing school?

Published

I have been going through all these posts to find what items are the best things to have for nursing school. The posts are all scattered so I thought I would start a post that will contain all the info for the new incoming students.

I would like to know what I should spend my money on when it comes to study guides, NCLEX review books, NET review books, best nursing shoes (without a logo), stethescope, misc nursing items you have to have, etc. Any new students/senior students/graduate nurses have any info they can share? What were the items you couldn't live without???

Thanks for your input!

Most important for me is comfortable shoes ,nothing worse than trying to soak up information while the feet are aching etc,you know what i mean a distraction.:o)

PDA: Pocket PC or Palm Pilot. There are all kinds of software available.....ex: drug books, nursing calculators, nursing diagnosis, med/surg manuals, etc.

Some are free......some are definitely not cheap. :)

I have a HP iPAQ, and love it! :) Some schools require a PDA, some do not.

Do a search on AllNurses for PDA, etc.....there are several that can help you out more.

I am supposed to get navy scrubs that are thick enough to not stick to your skin and that have lots of pockets. I am from central Kansas, does anyone know where I can go to get these scrubs?

Saunders Comprehensive NClex book is a good book and Medical -Surgical Nursing Reviews and Rationales is a very good book. I used both of those books for school. Are you just starting nursing school? I wish you all the luck and it will go by fast. I graduating from and ADN program on May 12th and it has went by fast.

If there is a hospital in your area there is probably a uniform store not far from it! Look for a Landau in your area. I would grab the phone book or look on the internet for stores in your area. Otherwise, there is always the internet!!! Good luck!

P.S. Our colors are navy as well! Looks good on almost everyone!

i am thinking of purchasing this recorder. will it transcribes for all my class lectures. this is what i mean- i understand that the naturally dragon speaking software which aides in transcribing the audio to text recognizes only one voice, which is normally your own. so i my question is will it recognize all my teachers voices and transcribe it for me?

here is the model that does transcribe, even more pricey at $200...but i'm still getting it. less hours of typing my notes! :wink2:
