What Is Your Most Gross, Yucky, Disgusting Nursing Horror Story?

Here is my most gross, yucky, disgusting nursing story! Nurses Humor Article

Updated:

I was working a night shift on a tele floor as a new Nurse.

We had this one poor old lady who was confused and was restrained as usual for her safety. She was our designated resident nightmare geri from hell, so she was placed near the Nurse's station.

So we are chilling out at the Nurse's station, chatting and trying to get through another night...

Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, I see our lady in question standing in the dimly lit doorway of her room!

I instantly leap out and run to her. As I approach her, she appears to be falling towards me, so I meet her in a bear hug...my arms around her waste, and her arms around my shoulders.

As I catch the lady, I notice a very strong smell of feces, and I feel something warm on my hands, arms and shoulders...

My fellow heroes come in behind me, and as the lights are turned on, my worst fears are instantly realized.

Yes, I caught the poor old lady with a good old bear hung football catch, but I was also covered in the lady's feces.

As I look at her, she has feces smeared all over her arms and hands... (and even her face!)

And of course, now so did I! :D

Well, as a nursing student especially assigned in E.R, there you'll see a lot of grossiest things.. One time, a patient came in with purulent foul smelling discharge on his right foot with edema, he was put to a stretcher for he cannot walk due to severity of his condition, my classmate took vital signs and unexpected thing happened was that the pus was on her shoes already lolz, not knowing that her stockings has them too! after the doctor diagnosed the patient we found out that he's diabetic and wounds was about 1 month already... tsk tsk tsk

I was working together with one of my friends on a sub acute unit one afternoon. ( I have since realized I work better by myself) We had just got a new resident that day. We had not seen her yet when her daughter came to get us to put 'Mom" on a bed pan so my friend and I went down there. We were told that she was 'overwieght' but we didn't know how much. both of us were surprised at how big she was. She told us from the jump that she could not do anything for herself. So she raised her arms up for us to do all the work. I got tickled by the look on my friends face and was trying to stiffle a giggle as we were turning the pt on her side to put the bed pan under her. This patient was also very dry we noticed. We had to log roll her and I had to hold her buttocks up to allow room for the bedpan. My friend was just about to say something with her mouth wide open when I lost my grip on the pt. hips and the gloves scrubbing against the ladies extremely dry skin threw "booty dust" up in the air just as my friend sucked in to speak I mean you could see the flakes going into her mouth. I lost it I was laughing so hard. I mean I tried to control it for the pts sake but there was nothing I could do I was laughing so hard I actually peed on myself.. My friend was so upset she was licking paper towels and gaging.. which only put me into another fit of giggles I don't know how we held it together long enough to finish pt. care. but we did then I had to run home and change myself. Both of us agreed not to work together again. (btw friend thought it was funny too but only wish I had got the mouth full of "booty dust")

Sue.

Hadn't been to the toilet for a couple of days(if you get my drift), but this had me laughing so hard, I finally went whewwwwwwwwwww!!!! thank you:rotfl:

My friend in a nursing home, saw one of his patients sitting at the end of the hall, eating something. When he got close enough, he almost gagged. The old guy, who was notorious for removing his ostomy bag, was holding it on his lap, using it as his "dip" for his crackers.

Most of this thread I can handle but :barf02:

I am not sure how this will display, but I have to agree. The ostomy bag one is over the top. So is the Earwax one where the pt. was eating it. :uhoh21: I can handle pretty much anything, but I would have gagged on the spot with those two. there's a point when you just can't hold back!

at my age and experience Ive seen so much, that not much of anything fazes me anymore

I just say OK

this resident had a peg tube and was on bolus feeding

we got an emergency call from his room and the nurse said that she was just finished giving him a bolus when he went into respiratory distress

while giving him compressions his scrotum got larger and larger till it looked like it would bust

nurse swore up and down that she had checked for patency b/4 giving bolus but i have always thought that he had that entire feeding in his ab cavity and that it was pumped into scrotum by cpr compressions

when you can't really prove anything you just watch out the best you can

was very relieved when she decided that we were just not up to her standards and she left

Or, he could have had a tension pneumothorax and what you were seeing was subcuatanous emphysmema, which frequently radiates into the scrotum--

Patient goes into PEA--nobody figures out the underlying cause of the PEA---PEA deteriorates into V tach then Vfib, unresponsive to shock--

Still, I think that whatever that nurse did caused the tension pneumo and the PEA--however, whether it was an errant PEG tube feeding entering the wrong cavity could, I think, only be proven on autopsy---I am betting none was done....or was there?

OK, that ostomy bag post was too much........I think I'm gonna :barf02: I'm not particularly squeamish, but between that and the earwax, I've pretty much lost my appetite this morning. :stone

Come to think of it, that may not be such a bad thing.......maybe I can use this thread as a weight-control device! :chuckle

If anyone know's what this is please tell me When I was an aide in California many years ago I was sitting with a Pt about 85 years old receiving blood product she was dying of cancer.

Her stomach began to fill up with the blood and she began to sweat I noticed that when I sponged her down with the white wash cloth that there was blood on the wash cloth .I thought maybe she had a tear some where but she didn't have any tears I noticed that the sweat droplets looked blood tinged So I touched her arm with my glove and noticed blood on the glove.Withen in minutes the lady expired when we moved her we noticed on the sheet where her upper back had been there was blood also.

This has alway kind of intrested me as they have said in the bible Jeaus when he died bled from every pore.Alway been a mystery to me.

This is an out-of-the blue guess, but it sounds like it might be Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP).
