This week, I have learned...
1. I've decided to keep a tally of most critical labs in one admission, starting today (not including renal failure patients): hgb, glucose, potassium, chloride, PT and INR
2. Farawyn's what I learned thread was way cooler than mine are.
Adding an 80s song makes any thread way cooler.
3. Don't trust a 0600 portable chest X-ray to tell you if pulling a chest tube at 1600 is a good idea. It really sucks to tell someone they have a pneumo still.
4. If someone has q4h benzos and opiates, bring both when they ask for one because they'll just ask for the other after you've already run to the med room twice for them.
5. When someone's paracentesis site is still actively dripping rather steadily, it makes me want to squeeze that sucker and see how far I can shoot the fluid out.
6. This week, it actually was sarcoidosis.
7. I know what sarcoidosis is now.
Sarcoidosis sucks.
8. Doctors really need to stop saying, "we're going to go ahead and discharge you," without adding, "this afternoon", especially when they know full well they won't be putting in discharges anytime soon.
9. I think I've realized that the best docs we have actually enjoy my unit the best because they chart there.
My list is boring this week.
What have you learned?
Psh. I don't even own thoseBut if I did, I would definitely wear them with shorts and a bikini.
I know you would! I'm actually wearing that very outfit right now!
I like Uggs. And Birkenstocks. And Danskos. I have less clunky/ sexy/ dressy shoes, too, but they aren't as much fun as the fugly ones.
Only if the shorts are short enough the front pockets stick out below them
Exactly. That's the only way the whole outfit would make sense. Now that I think about it, the broken iPhone with little spots of blood on the UGGs would actually flow quite nicely with the very logical thought that went into the outfit.
I leaned that some people take the NCLEX 8 times because they didn't take the first 6 times seriously😳
I also learned that if you are in your 60s and work a lot of hours then clearly you must be manic.
And lastly, having two brand new people right off orientation in the same OR (and me being responsible for both since I have all the experience) is a recipe for disaster!
Yea, I missed the 60 and manic. Found it after everyone else said what I wanted, so I piled on the likes.
Did you miss "Nurse Supervisor retaliating against patient"? The OP got all bent out of shape against anyone who didn't agree with her, said they had reading comprehension problems & but said that she didn't make the post just so she could get people to agree with her. She eventually had the mods close it, I wonder why. Lol.

I've learned that I miss a lot of fun threads!
