I'm starting nursing school in less then 2 months so I'm buying all the supplies I need which includes a stethoscope. http://www.medisave.net/ offers free engraving. And I thought I might as well as buy a nice one that lasts.
I don't know if I should put my full first and last name, or just put my first name and initial.
My friend who didn't make through nursing school said I should put my name and "RN" after it, as motivation. But would it be weird to put that since I'm not really an RN yet?
So I guess my main question is really if I should put "RN" at the end or if that would be weird since I am still a student.
IMO, the tiny laser scribing on a stethoscope doesn't rise to the level of identifying oneself as an RN.I have my full name with stars before and after on the bell of my stethoscope and I will add RN when the time comes. I think it's disrespectful for a student to identify them self as an RN when they aren't an RN.
As seems generally to be the case, my opinion is almost certainly in the minority (which I sometimes consider that might actually be my subconscious desire.)

I think it would also be misleading for a student to place these letters on anything, especially their stethoscope. To each their own I suppose :) and your subconscious desire to be the minority made me lol! :)
I am a first semester student, I purchased my stethoscope from medisave as well. I decided to put my first and last name with hearts. Not only did I think it was inappropriate to put RN after my name, but I'm very superstitious and thought it would be bad ju-ju. If you wanted to you can maybe get away with putting your name and SN for (student nurse).
I got my full first and last name engraved on my awesome purple Littmann. My first name is pretty common, but my last name is not (it's so unique that if you have my last name I'm assuming you're related to me one way or another). I didn't even think to put RN on it when I started nursing school. Probably because it couldn't fit anyway. If you want motivation I had a little card in my wallet that said, "You will be a Nurse" over and over. Better than putting RN after my name. Hope that helps and enjoy your stethoscope! And be very, very careful who you let use it. I only lent it twice, once to my preceptor and a 2nd time to a EMT, but I was in full view of them the whole time and politely grabbed it back as soon as they were done (and cleaned it ).
Thanks for the reply's! I think I'll go with "heart peace sign first name last initial heart peace sign" I'm getting a pink one with a rainbow bell so I don't think it will get mixed up. Also, I don't really see why I would put it down and forget it just like I don't forget my phone, keys, or whatever else.
just wait until you're cleaning up the messiest poo you've seen, or you've been projectile vomited on... you will put it down, it gets in the way
Or you end up in a zillion isolation rooms and can't take it with you. It will get put down, a code will be called, someone will poop or vomit on you. You'll be surprised at the amount that you need to put it down.
I'm another person that thinks putting RN on it before you are official is a bad idea too.
