Just curious.... besides the wonderful nursing care, what keeps your patients coming back?? What special perks do you do for your patients to make their stay more comfortable, etc. Thanks!

we provide free coffee/tea 24/7, cookies in the pm and fruit in the am in the waiting rooms. Our satisfaction committees are very active and visible. We use the patient advocate person when needed, even for "minor" complaints. We provide beepers for family waiting for procedures to end so the MD and nurse can contact them ASAP (they don't work 100' away from hospital). When a suggestion is made for improvement and the change is made we include a note that "this change was made thru the pat satisf committee" or some such statement. We ask for written comments and we make phone calls.

A point is made though advertising/media that the patient is the "center of our universe" and than puts all the ownership of that statement onto the nurse's back.
Personally I think better educating the public about what they should want when it comes to health care would be more beneficial towards "customer service" than setting up expectations that the nursing staff cannot meet.

I just finished the dumbest survey sent by Tenent about reasons I'd choose one hospital over another. Furniture?!! I could care less about furniture. Or most of the questions that they asked because they eliminated doctors' recommendation as a basis. Only one choice appealed to me and that was wireless access. It's not even multiple choice just "How much would (food) (furniture) (being called at home or work when they were ready for your procedure, etc.) affect your decision. Scale of one to five. There was no section for suggestions. I kept thinking of that jungle on my legs and how much I'd have appreciated a bit of help with shaving them when I regained my senses. I had soo much to suggest and no way to do it!!! I was fortunate in that friends brought high end moisturizers, gave manicures and pedicures, things like that. But they couldn't see the legs because of the pneumonic pump. But I felt them!!!
