I'm just curious to see what you all think has been your hardest clinical so far.. Or if you may have heard anything through the grapevine...?
I start my pedi/maternity rotations in a few weeks! I'm so excited to get started, but under all the excitement is a bunch of nerves!
:-)
Peds was a really boring rotation, we were lucky to have enough sick kids to even have a pt. OB was a great rotation, I felt the most competent and really enjoyed it. For me, my rotation on Rehab floor was the most challenging. It was in my first year and it was intense. Lots to do and care had to be coordinated to be completed around therapy schedules. Transfers were often very hard and the patients had multisystem problems that had to be addressed. It would be a great rotation for 2nd year, but phew...that was my first rotation after LTC so it was an eye opener!!
All of my clinicals have been pretty much equal so far, and I've enjoyed all of them in their own way (LTC, Med/surg, Peds/OB, critical care). Upcoming semester is community health and psych..I am not looking forward to psych, but I am trying to keep an open mind, especially considering the facility we're going to mostly handles detox, depression, and eating disorders.

Psych was the worst. I cried on the way to clinical..I cried on my lunch break (heck I cried in the closet in the dang place)..I proceeded to cry all the way home..and just after that was done I cried myself to sleep because I knew I had to go back in the morning. Keep in mind the psych unit I worked on was secured by 2 state troopers where we were searched each morning before entering the building. It was not pretty..and I think that I just might DIE when I have to go back for RN school clinicals..I HATE PSYCH I would not work in psych if it was the LAST nursing job on the face of the earth.
