I've always wanted to be in L/D and my LPN clinicals solidified that for me. I was afraid that I may change my mind but I didn't. My long term goal is nurse midwife. I interviewed for a PCT position in Mother/Baby today so that when I graduate I can transfer into an RN position on the floor. I really hope I get this job, she knows my plan and said that they always try to make that happen but she has several other interviews to do before she decides.
I've been doing hospice nursing for the past 12 years and I'll stay there (same company) after I graduate.
When I started LPN school, I wanted to work in L/D. But after our clinicals in LTC, I absolutely fell in love w/ geriatric pts. I also enjoyed the psych clinicals. Plenty of psych nursing in hospice.
I am not even in nursing school yet (1 more year of waiting!!) but I really want to work in the NICU. I was born at 24 weeks and I spent 5 months there as a baby. I feel that is where I need to be, helping other premature babies and their families :)
I am not ruling anything else out though. Who knows what nursing school will bring and where I will end up after I am a nurse. I wouldn't mind Labor and Delivery or Peds either!
Right now I am volunteering at my local hospital. For now I am volunteering on the L/D floor but after some training I will be in the NICU...so excited!!!
Well, will be starting school in a week!!
I would love to be in L&D, Peds, NICU or ER. But honestly I am really not picky. Just to work as a bonafide nurse wherever I can get in is alright with me :)
Eventually I want to go into nursing education and teach future nurses! Good luck to all of you!!!

I am getting ready to start my last semester of nursing school and it has me wondering where I want to end up and where everyone in my class will end up! So what area do you guys want to end up in after school??? Did it change from what you thought you wanted when you started or have you found your niche in nursing school?
For me, It's OB and its always been that way! I'll probably start out on a medsurg floor and hopefully transition quickly.
